Not the end of the world. I wish he would stay, but it's the players that make this Defense great. With Kiko back next year, they'll be fine.

I think this is the first test for Rex. He needs to sell Schwartz that it isn't about "him"

The defense has been phenomenal 2 years in a row, under 2 different coordinators.

It was better this year, but the players also grew up a year and got a year better.

I'm not saying Schwartz wasn't a big reason the defense was amazing this year, he was.

But I really don't see how him leaving and Rex Ryan managing things is some kind of drop off.

This defense has a disgusting amount of talent on it. They'll be fine, Schwartz or no Schwartz.

Especially with Rex at the helm.

Not surprising. I think Schwartz leaves, personally.

I hope not. But I do agree that the loss wouldn't necessarily mean a big slide on the defense if at all.

This defense was far from phenomenal under Pettine, it was just better than the previous few years. I really don't want to go back to getting gashed for almost 200 yards rushing per game again.

I hope Schwartz stays.

I think Schwartz & Ryan would enjoy working on game plans together.

I think they could teach each other a trick or two & maybe put their heads together to come up with a plan to beat Belicheat.

Thank You. Hated the Pettine D. Every journeyman RB could gain 125-150 yards between our tackles with ease. Spread the DL out way too much.

Hope Schwartz can work things out but I won't lose sleep over it. The players love the guy but he might not like a Rex type personality.

You give Pettine an actual Mike LB that can stuff the run and we probably don't get gashed. You're being selective with your credit/criticism by ignoring personnel differences.

He had Karlos Dansby in Cleveland this year and they were still getting gashed. #9 in scoring defense, #8 in passing defense, #32 in rush defense.

I think it's a schematic issue with Pettine, he commits to shutting down the pass.

I'm not worried about the defense taking a step back. I can see Rex doing wonderful things with this defense since we have pass rushers on the line and a pretty good secondary.

I dont think Rex would go all out to a 3-4 , I can see us being a multiple front like Pettine had it.

If Schwartz leaves, might as well call our team the Western NY Jets.

The defense has been phenomenal 2 years in a row, under 2 different coordinators.

I posted a thread about the D being elite in about week 4. The early comments in that thread were quite critical of my assessment. The bandwagon got full after they killed Manning's streak and made Aaron Rodgers look useless. Nobody thought the D was great at the beginning of the year. The idea that the D was "phenomenal" under Pettine has popped up this offseason, especially after Marrone quit. Fans didn't agree that our current D was elite until very late in the season, and everyone agreed it was a big improvement from the previous season.

It just isn't true. Pettine's D struggled against the run and in the redzone and on 3rd down. It lacked character, intensity, and often quit once the Bills were down. Schwartz' D was quite different. They had an attitude that it was their job to singlehandedly win the games, offense be damned. Rex has very big shoes to fill, and he's unlikely to get much help from the offense.

Dareus played his best under Schwartz. I like that we only have to send our DL to rush the Qb . Please keep Schwartz.

https://twitter.com/viccarucci/status/554800676707266561Seems unlikely DC Jim Schwartz will remain w #Bills (https://twitter.com/hashtag/Bills?src=hash), despite Rex Ryan offering him chance to stay. Schwartz probably gone by tomorrow.

Valid point, though Cleveland's front is not in the same league as ours.

Agreed about the primary goal though.

Rex's defense ranked 5th against the rush last year compared to the Bills' 11th. Pettine is a Rex disciple but maybe not as good as Rex. That said I prefer Schwartz as don't think we have the personnel to run a 3-4.

Schwartz was leaving regardless...it just so happens it is possibly sooner rather latter. At least we're not having to deal with an unknown on that side of the ball if in fact he does opt for another pasture....

Well light a match and burn it to the ground again. Typical Bills. we really really need to hold on to the things which make us good for a change.

I think once Marrone left it was hard to envision him staying no matter who we picked

I would be shocked if anyone but Dennis Thurman is announced as the DC.

It's a guy Rex has familiarity and confidence in.
