I like Chan Gailey. I always wonder what would happen if he wasn't having to make do. But he always is. Don't have a clue what his ideal is. If this is it, we're in trouble. Doubt it is though, so probably they are.

He does manage to get QBs to play above themselves somewhat, which is a bit disconcerting since Geno does have some talent. That's an interesting staff they built there.

I like Galley. Wish he would of gone somewhere I could root for him.

He was stubborn to a fault (Fitz) and you could call the plays from the stands before they snapped the ball. Then he would get cute with stupid calls on 3rd and short.

The Jets will continue to struggle.

Chad Pennington is only 38. They should bring him in.

I don't get the love for Chan Failey. He was brutal with Tech and he was terrible in Buffalo. We used to joke around about how many plays in a row we could call before he ran them. He'll be awful in NY and I'll bet money the Jets will be 2-14 next year.

Whatever one thinks of Gailey's play-calling and game strategy skills, it takes a certain personality and level of experience and wisdom to deal with pro players. Your "employees" are young with maturity levels all over the map, have been idolized at some level, have a considerable pocketful of jingle, some have grown up in deplorable circumstances, etc.

Of course, college and pro football is very much an old boy's club. Once you're in, you're in. But I think that having the ability to work with the above is a necessary part. :2cents:

People in Buffalo like Chan because he's a good person and generally like-able. When he got fired, he held a press conference to talk about how much he enjoyed his time here and said that this is the only team that he's been fired from that he'll be rooting for. That's what it takes to be liked in a city where the team hasn't made the playoffs in 15 years. Was he the greatest coach? Obviously not. That doesn't mean I won't be rooting for him to succeed. Him coaching for the Jets is the reason I won't be rooting for him to succeed.

You know what I love about this. Your own fans didn't want him to go. You hired a salary cap GM that decimated the team. Even Mike Lupica said that Rex got a raw deal...and was a class act in the process.

Trust me, there were a lot more fans that wanted him gone. Now dont get me wrong, Idzik did him wrong, but Rex also wore out his welcome and it was time for him to go. Its not like he didnt have his flaws.

Good for him, I wish him well and lots of wildcard appearances provided we win the division crown and they win the WC to oust the Cheaties

I liked a lot of what Gailey did. His downfall was the team's defense more than anything.

Gailey got a lot of mileage out of low level talent. At one time the team featured 3 undrafted rookie wide receivers (Roosevelt, Jones, Nelson) and he managed to get some production from them. His teams suffered from some poor draft picks and lots of injuries to boot.

He actually knew how to use Spiller - something that eluded the Marrone regime.

I suppose I still think Gailey's fatal flaw was his inability to find a DC here. With a Pettine or Schwartz defense, they'd have broken .500 sooner, look at the diff from Wannstedt to Pettine, and they'd not have needed to rely on Fitz' dubious gunslinging so much. Certainly not a Super Bowl team though.

You could predict the plays.....well yeah, playing like they had to from behind, relying on Fitz' for arm he didn't have, and a defense they didn't have.

My end thought on Gailey was that he was a nice guy, not a good HC, but as an OC, it comes back to the same thing. He had to "make do" in KC, had to "make do" in Buffalo. If he fails in NY, it's because he's "making do" again and never got the guy that matches his brain. Sure doesn't look likely in NY.

But Gailey imho, was never so terrible, just outgunned. Would have been fun to see him with a Kaepernick or Wilson for his pistol offense derivative. Given time, he figured out how to use Spiller as a weapon, even in the passing game.

For an old guard, Gailey kept up on his offense. Unfortunately now though he gets Geno Smith, and unfailingly lands in jail, do not pass go, do not collect $200.

I'm kind of interested to see what happens behind a Bowles defense though. If you watched any Cardinals games, even injury damaged, Bowles gets insane in the 4th quarter. There is no prevent defense, he blitzes like a maniac, over and over and over, whether they are ahead or behind, and it unravels the nerves of opponents, because they keep expecting him to stop and he just doesn't. I don't know what happens with Gaily making do if you give him enough leads or close games to work with. At best I remember the Bills trying to hang on by fingernails and hope opponents didn't get another possession.

But still, he gets Geno Smith. The guy just has the worst luck.

Gailey is still a good OC. The Jets offense has nowhere else to go but up even with Geno/Vick behind center.

When he punted from the Rams 34 I gave up on him. People who have criticized Marrone for punting on 4th & 6 from close to midfield still love Chan for some unknown reason.

Chan the OC is much better than Chan the HC, for sure, and his sissy punts were one big reason.

Apparently Gailey is still in the mix for the Cleveland OC job as is, apparently, Tom Clements.

Yes that one.
