    Packers get time to grow

    But extra week brings injury alert
    Green Bay - It's an NFL coach's dream to be allowed an extra week of practice and a fifth exhibition game, given the difficult player evaluations he must make and the ramifications they might have on his team.

    But for Green Bay Packers coach Mike Sherman, there is a catch to this bounty of practice time the league has bestowed upon him. Somehow he has to find a way to keep his team healthy for the regular season.

    That is not an easy thing in the violent world of football, and it might be especially difficult for Sherman, who in two of his three seasons as Packers coach has seen his team ravaged by injury. It's a testament to his coaching ability that the Packers have gone 34-17 under Sherman, but it is also a fact that injuries have been a consistent problem for him to overcome.
