If anything is clear from talking to those who know Jake Plummer best, it's that he hasn't forgotten his roots and a modest upbringing that stressed family and forever taught him to be a kid at heart.

As he prepared to begin a new chapter in his life, as quarterback of the Denver Broncos, Idaho is where he went to ensure his batteries were fully charged for what he hopes will be an extended NFL season.

"I can get away, golf, hang out with my family and get grounded," Plummer said recently before wrapping up Denver's arduous off-season workout program.

1 His dad is responsible for Jake's trademark look - white socks pulled up high. "Steve's calves were always so skinny he had to wear his socks that high if he wanted them to stay up," Jake's mother Marilyn said.

2 Plummer wore No. 6 in high school, starting as a junior. The reason: It was the only number left on the senior-dominated team.

3 He had a chance meeting with Bernie Kosar as a high school sophomore. The family, driving cross-country to attend his oldest brother's graduation from Brown University, pulled off the road to get gas in Cleveland. Jake asked to pose for a photo with the Browns quarterback, and then, on the return trip, had his picture taken in front of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Once deemed the next Joe Montana, Jake Plummer crossed paths with the real McCoy three years ago.

And as they joked around on the golf course, Plummer offered an apology for not living up to the comparisons.

"Sorry for bringing down the Joe Montana image," he quipped.

And they laughed.

But who will be laughing at the end of this season?

Will it be the Plummer critics, who see all the interceptions and bad decisions and remain skeptical that he's good enough to be a championship NFL quarterback?

Or will it be Denver Broncos coach Mike Shanahan, who after eating crow with Brian Griese the past few years, might be able to recapture some of the glory he attained with John Elway? CLICK FOR MORE: (http://www.insidedenver.com/drmn/broncos/article/0,1299,DRMN_17_2120298,00.html)
