i dont know if the sabres have the assets to get him without straying off the rebuild course significantly.

The Sabres would have to give up too much at this point for him.

Teams will have to get under the cap by unloading good players and not get fair market value for them as a result this summer much like the Islanders last summer scooping up a couple good players cheap. I rather have Buffalo trade away picks or assets with some team in cap trouble than pay a lot for O' Reilly.

Pretty much this. He has shown he can do it but good luck getting a player of that age to go down in salary. So you would be paying 6.5 to 7 just to get 2nd line production. Maybe.
