    Bills release Keith Rivers

No major shock as he got little playing time last year and because he's better suited for the 4-3 it seemed he was destined to be cut when Rex Ryan came aboard. Though the timing maybe a bit off unless we might want to bring someone and/or re-sign one of our UFA. What say you? http://www.buffalobills.com/news/art...0-85e3ce008392

With Kiko coming back and the thought Mario, Lawson and others can be coming off the end as standup LB's, he didn't make sense anymore. Brown is a ILB and Spikes may be re-signed. Numbers game and salary cap.

Who didn't see this coming even if Marrone stayed?

Due to our lack of draft picks I expect the bills to be active in FA. By that I mean signing a couple of cheaper vet LBs for special teams and emergency depth. They can get someone way cheaper than Rivers.

This makes sense. Once Rivers lost his starting role to a younger cheaper player, it seemed like his days were numbered. With youth and depth at LB it makes more sense to spend that money elsewhere. I like the fact that they did it before free agency started. That might be a good indicator that they plan to be aggressive and need the additional space. Plus it gives Rivers a better chance to land a job for next season. I believe cutting Rivers saves about $1.7 mil.

I hope Rivers is saving his money. His NFL career is seeing the light at the end of its tunnel.

Not a surprise considering his pt last season and the switch back to Ryan's D...certainly doesn't create a hole, and frees up a few bucks to fill a couple of holes now necessitated by moving away from Schwartz (DE, NT).
