Three year deal. Good.

Check that one piece of junk off the list. On to Sanchez, or whoever.

Doesn't really speak well of either Manziel or Hoyer.

I agree. Glad Bills didn't overpay.

Three year deal. Ah geez.

Probably gets cut by the end of the season, too. Man, and we finally had some free agents leaving that were good enough to get comp picks for.

My team can't do anything right. Except suck.

So now the Bills will look elsewhere for QB help. Name to watch there is Matt Cassel, if the Vikings decide to cut or move him.

I'd rather have Cassel than McCown

Wow the Browns just keep proving they are painfully idiotic. They chose McCown over Hoyer? He's definitely gone now and probably ends up with us

Darn those Browns ! Bless them !

I feel like I've been given a new lease on life. Oh the colors so vibrant, the sounds so clear, the scents so um, scentfull !

Now we can move along and get a less worse discard QB, as well we should. Bring on the Sanchize !

Poor Browns fans. This has been one of the most outrageously awful years I've ever seen.

On the plus side of this for Cleveland you got the prime pickins !

I'm genuinely sorry for your gain. I have an empathy for Cleveland.

They chose McCown over Hoyer?

I didn't get that either. Maybe Hoyer told them he wasn't coming back?

what it says is the clev qb sitch is looked at as worse than the bills, which makes sense

theres one name that coaches and gms often come to for advice, and thats mh the geekŪ, who says regarding the relevant candidates ...

official mh the geekŪ odds of these collection of bozos actually being anything resembling long term nfl starters of moderately acceptable production actually happening:

30% ej manual
15% johnny loserdick
12% hoyer

the only thing that mcwhocares gives a team like the browns or bills is steady baseline production, but no future. these other guys probably will get there eventually just from holding clipboards for years, except johnny who will probably be dead by then. they technically have more upside but the odds are shrinking for all of them, especially johnny who has a better chance of being infected by a transvestite than ever being a reliable nfl starter

Pegula is smart.

Went back and told him he's worth lesser money and he found a dumb team that would pay him more than he is worth.

Does this mean that the Browns won't pick a QB with the 1st round pick they got from the Bills in the Sammy Watkins trade?

Bet they won't pick a QB with their own 1st round pick either.

What would that tell us?

At any rate, I'm glad we didn't land McCown. THREE YEARS? Please. Can't wait to see what kind of contract they gave him.

Surprised 3 years deal, probably the deal breaker tilted to the Browns.

He'll be 39 when the 3 year rolls around. Of course he himself probably does not expect to see that 3rd year.

Unless he does the Matt Hasselbeck thing and rides the bench. Yet at least Hasselbeck started long term in the NFL meanwhile McCown's been a career clip board holder.

This should open the door for us to bring in Hoyer, which would be the smart move from the get-go.

The reason McCown chose the Browns is that they reportedly offered him a chance to compete for the starting spot.

The implication is that EJ will start.

Or, more likely, the fact the Bills don't view him as a starter - just a safety-valve back-up.

Actually the article you linked says that McCown decided to choose between the Bills and Browns because they both offered him the chance to compete for the starting spot (as an aside, I can't believe the Jets didn't as well), which is how it should be. Although I suspect that Cleveland told him he's essentially the starter since Manziel i s a mess and I doubt they add another one in FA, while the draft isn't looking so good for QB's.

per @getnickwright McCown got 3 years/15 million.

I bet the BILLS offered 2/10mill and that 3rd extra year at 5mil was deal sealer for the Browns

Not even sure the Bills would match the guaranteed money, let alone the 3rd year.

On the other hand, the primary target for the Bills, Hoyer, in my mind at least, might not be as promising according to this article. I don't believe the Bills would promise a starting job for all these guys.

They wouldn't. McCown was likely told he'd have to compete in Buffalo, as it should be since EJ hasn't established himself and McCown isn't that good. In Cleveland however, he'd be the de facto starter.

First time for several years the Bills won't see the Browns this year. Read: the Bills didn't finish last in the division whereas the Browns are where they usually were.
