If we lose Spikes, Kiko, and Hughes we've got real problems

    And it's a real possibility.

LB was an issue going into 2014. Losing those 3 will set us back farther than coming into 2014 and that is a serious issue.

    Just saying.

Resign Hughes and wait for Spikes to test the market or sign David Harris.

Updated (I thought it was assumed)

UNLESS we sign/draft/trade for equal or better replacement(s)

You assume by losing those players we don't bring others in. Very short sighted.

They wouldn't of traded Kiko if they didn't have a plan.

Davis Harris is dying to come play for Rex. There are still other FA LBs out there too.

Why would we do that? I can't imagine Orakpo would ask for much less.

Orakapu has played OLB in a 3-4 with the Redskins so that isn't a bad move but it's also all about contract terms with us committing almost half of our cap room prior to UFA we now only have about $13 million in cap space. Hopefully we can renogiate McCoy to more cap friendly deal and then maybe we can think about Hughes or Orakpo but right now I don't we have the cap space to get either if we still want to shore up TE and find a S to replace Searcy and maybe find a veteran OG/nackup OT.

I want to see Hughes return, but with Rex Ryan in charge I'm just not worried about the defense. The D will be fine.

If Bills lose Spikes and Kiko and gain David Harris, all is right in the world. Spikes is a 1 dimensional LB. Kiko on the mend and lacks experience. http://www.rotoworld.com/recent/nfl/4197/david-harris

I would love to see Hughes retained, but not sure that is feasible considering the money he thinks he is worth.

yeah im pretty sure rex will make the right calls on the defensive talent. no so sure on offense but romans a pretty good oc and whaley is pretty good at talent assessment so all of them together should be as good as anybody at making those calls. you would think anyway

We are the team making bold moves before FA and the draft even start ( Incognito,McCoy,Cassel ) and you're seeing problems ?

Manny Lawson plays a bigger part like in 2013.

One thing I have no concerns about with either Ryan or Whaley is their ability to get LBs.

Hughes put up back to back season of 10 sacks, it's not an easy task. He's going to get the going rate for that production whether we like it or not. I posted earlier this off season that 20 players registered 10 or more sacks last season. Do you realize that's less than 1 per team and the Bills were fortunate to have three of those guys. Hughes will be missed if he's lost of course adding someone that could add part of what he produced will help.

It was an if then statement and you question the if... I agree we have other ways out.

Why do we need David Harris? We have Brown who can play the inside and Bradham assuming we add another OLB/keep Hughes. I get the Rex connection but we don't need Harris we need help at OLB/D-line if Hughes is lost not an inside guy.
