Has EJ Manuel been practicing all off season long with a QB guru like George Whitfield?

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/01/08/manziel-will-spend-next-few-months-training-with-qb-guru/

No. Last time Manuel worked with Whitfield, EJ was a teenager.

What's he been doing? If he's going to be the face of the franchise for the next decade, where is EJ and what has he been doing lately?

Crickets. Not even a Tweet or two as far as I know about EJ working with any kind of quarterback specialist.

Special thanks to YardRat.

Cyrus Kouandjio on the other hand has been going all out this off season trying to get better at the LeCharles Bentley Offensive Line Performance Training Center.

Latest word about EJ Manuel comes from CJ Spiller.

http://www.rotoworld.com/recent/nfl/8331/ej-manuel

Speaking on NFL Network, free agent C.J. Spiller says E.J. Manuel is too "buddy-buddy" with his teammates and needs to be more assertive.
Spiller noted the stark contrast between Manuel's easygoing approach and the style of veteran Kyle Orton, "who demands what he wants out of us." Buffalo struggled with Manuel under center and nearly made the playoffs with Orton, so it's obvious which approach resonated more with teammates. For Manuel to succeed in this league, he'll need to start showing some leadership.

I'm not supposed to know anything.

All I know is that it is very common for NFL players to Tweet out what they've been doing lately, and the media keeps a close eye on what every quarterback is doing in the off-season.

One would think that EJ Manuel would be doing everything possible to convince fans and the coaching staff that he's doing everything he can do to get better.

Silence is golden, but not when it comes to playing quarterback in the NFL.

I'd be hanging out on my veranda drinking spiked lemonade and preparing to use my degree in Communications for the NSA in two more years after everyone gives up on me for hanging out on my veranda drinking with a tidy sum in the bank.

I would rather EJ meet with Roman and our QB coach and do the drills they tell him to do. These QB guru's are way overrated in my opinion, and if they were as good as they claim some team would pay them big money to coach their team.

IIRC, Tannehill worked with Marino during the off season last year. Obviously we've seen reports about KuJo getting extra help. In the past we've heard about players training together, QB's and receivers working together, etc. If EJ is so committed to his craft, it's not unreasonable to expect that the public would have gotten a whiff of a report, and it's something that he should be doing.

Are we seriously criticizing a QB for not having a big enough social media presence?

No, we're wondering why he isn't doing everything possible to maximize his potential. The only factor social media plays is, maybe he is and nobody is aware of it, but that's highly unlikely, don't you think?

i don't know hwo likely or unlikely it is either way. I mena, I doubt anyone knew Kujo was attending that school until he was on John Murphy the other day.

I don't know how often players talk about attending guru camps. I suppose some do, some don't.

I'll say this, I haven't heard anyone complain about his work ethic.

Why is that highly unlikely? The offseason habits of the vast majority of the NFL aren't news.

I don't think it's a 'story' that needs legs. It would be nice to know, but certainly not necessary, that the alleged QB of the future that has struggled the first two seasons in the league was doing everything he can to be the best QB he can be and maximize his potential. I couldn't care less about the rest of the QB's in the league, just ours.

Maybe he is working with a private guru, and wants to keep it under wraps...that's OK, but part of the point is with the explosion of social media it's a lot harder for something like that to not eventually become public sometime, somewhere. What isn't part of the point is to create or emphasize any criticism of EJ, so that's not a path that needs to be traveled.

We've all seen stories of athletes over the years about some of the extra things they've done on their own during the off season to continue to improve and be the best they can be. Hell, I know somebody who has a kid making the transition from high school to D1 that's a damn good player and dominant at his position, a blue collar middle-class every-day Joe that hired a personal trainer to help his son prepare for the next level, why wouldn't somebody who is trying to establish a career do the same?

Russell Wilson obviously doesn't want to win the SB again either, didn't update his Facebook page with his lifting weights.

Who cares and why is anyone even asking this question. He worked with a guy last offseason and he showed some gains. His release was shorter and quicker and his footwork seemed better. That being said arm mechanics were never really an issue for EJ. His issue is getting his feet underneath him and processing the information the defense is providing him fast enough after the snap. I am confident his pre snap reads are fine, it is his post snap that I think is where he has to date been inadequate. As a result he starts rushing his feet get slow and that is why he throws high or inaccurate because he uses more arm to throw and the throwing motion is not consistent with the fundamental work he is used too. That is why he is inaccurate, when he has time does not rush and knows what is going on he can hit the target at any point on the field.

YardRat
03-06-2015, 08:21 AM
IMO 'arm mechanics' are one of his biggest issues...he doesn't throw the ball, he aims it.

when ej first came out last year he was a lot better. which isnt saying a ton but he was definitely better. then he had those two wtf games in a row where he looked so lost and couldnt get out of his own way

should be a ton more confident coming into it this time. should have worlds more knowledge about nfl defenses, knows how to prep, fire under his testes, we should see a big step forward. then we pray he doesnt revert to black trentative again

Going into his third season, Manuel decided to get in some offseason work with a man who had one of the longest quarterback tenures in NFL history. Steve DeBerg played for 21-years in the NFL and was a quarterback coach in the league for five years with the Giants and Falcons. EJ revealed Monday he spent much of the last few months working with DeBerg in Tampa and he’s ready to test some of the refinements he’s made to his delivery.

“I don’t want to say I’ve changed my throwing motion but I’ve been working with Steve DeBerg pretty much since January,” he said. “We’ve studied a bunch of the elite passers in the game. They all throw the ball, not necessarily the same exact way, but certain types of ways. I’ve been working on that since January. I think I have it down now.”

I hope it stuck.
