View Full Version : Hate to say it but we lost Hughes to get McCoy.

I know everyone wants Iupati and Harris and Hughes.

But Harris is gone, Hughes is getting big money elsewhere and I doubt we are landing a lineman at Hughes money.

McCoy was our big splash.

I get the feeling that Hughes was/is testing the market no matter what we offer, and he should. He would be crazy not to.

I might be in the minority here, but i feel like we could pick up a cheaper player like Trent Cole and get just as much from him.

Regardless, we did not lose Hughes in order to get McCoy.
McCoy is getting his contract revised and his cap hit will be lessened.
If Hughes walks, it's because he will be paid exorbitantly elsewhere.
Harris is an avg lb who knew Rex's system. The Jets overpaid to keep him.

I suspect there will be more splashes and surprises.
This is not the old OBD.

How exactly is it that we ever had Hughes to lose?

I would expect Shady's cap # to eventually come in just a little higher than what CJ is looking for.

It would be a real surprise if Spiller ends up getting anywhere close to what McCoy will get with this new deal they're trying to work out.

I don't thimk Spiller will get as large of a deal overall, but I think the cap hits could be similar.

You know this because you're in the Bills FO? An agent? An insider?

Or just another schmuck fan like everyone else throwing darts?

Local NBC Ch.2 news at 6 said McCoy may be getting a new deal with cap relief and Hughes is getting close to signing back up.

Why do you, and so many others like to cut people down?

Does that make you feel better about yourself?

Do you feel more powerful by being a jerk?

Are you self projecting your own deficiencies on others?

Does that make you happy? You don't seem to be a happy person, Mr. Miyagi.

No matter how rich or poor, the happiest people win.

You're the loser.

I think we keep Hughes with the restructured McCoy contract and probably get a middle grade FA with that money.

McCoy has nothing to do with re-signing Hughes. Hughes is looking for the highest he can get, and I can't blame him looking at it from his perspective, but I hate it as a Bills fan. And the days of Ralph watching his money are gone. Pegs has the money and the desire to spend it. And there's also that cap thing.

Here's a blurb, without any substantiation:

Report: Bills expect to keep defensive end Jerry Hughes
by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(12:14 pm ET) Despite multiple suitors, the Bills are expecting to keep Jerry Hughes, reports Yahoo Sports.
Hughes has been coveted by the Jaguars and Giants, but the Bills are hoping to retain his services. In 2014, Hughes generated 54 tackles and 10 sacks.

He won't, Spiller is still potential, he might still pan out but he needs to find the right team to do so.

Only in the past few days. I suspect that the pundit corps are as surprsied at the development as BUF fans are. I just hope he shows up to play and doesn't have a swelled head - he did taper off the last third or so of last season.

Not true. I posted quite a while ago that the Bills were working on keeping Hughes in Buffalo & were OPTIMISTIC they would be able to keep Hughes.

I heard that on WGR time & again.

BTW it was Hughes who said "no hometown discount" and this was before the McCoy trade.
