Do I dare ask about Fred Jackson?

So this is an open thread with no real opinion and I know we all love Fred, myself included. However:

First off, isn't his two year deal over? Why isn't he an UFA?

Second, we have arguably three very good backs already? Do we really need four? And BTW he's 34. We can't use that roster spot?

Three, does he have trade value? Could we get a 6th rounder for him?

    Thoughts?

      1) He got a one year extension last year http://espn.go.com/blog/buffalo-bill...ension-details 2)As things stand right now talent wise Freddie is the second best RB on this roster and that's his role this season. He might be our goal line back and occasional 3rd down guy but I wouldn't be shocked if he gets less than 200 touches this season. 3)Why trade him? This team doesn't have a lot of holes to fill and not sure losing Freddie and adding an extra 6th will get us "that guy".

Freddie signed a one year extension last year that will keep him here in 2015.

PITTSFORD, N.Y. -- When news first broke Wednesday of the Buffalo Bills' one-year extension with running back Fred Jackson, the initial reaction was one of slight surprise.

He's 34 years old, I hope we get another productive year out of him. I think the best scenario is for him to retire after this year. I'd hate to see him on another team, the guy is the epitome of Buffalo.

Jackson has zero trade value at that age, with that cost.

I don't see him going anywhere. He's still an excellent back and as a backup, he should maintain a high level of play. I'd hate to see him go and not end his career as a Buffalo Bill. Oh yeah, and our team's probably going to be in the playoffs this year, so I don't want him to miss out on that either.

One more year as 3rd down short yardage then he retires a bill. And goes on the wall.

I think he plays out the year and retires gracefully.

Freddie is not getting cut or traded, unless Rexy is looking forward to getting his ass tied to the bumper of his shiny new truck and dragged down Rt 20 from beginning to end. He'll play out this season, get fewer touches, still contribute and be a leader on and off the field, and retire gracefully. Unfortunate he never got a legit shot at a ring or hasn't even come close to suiting up in the playoffs, but considering his path I'd bet he feels pretty blessed.

Shaddy is theeee worst blocking RB in the NFL by a fairly large margin.

                      I'll just leave this here:

He has future RB position coach written all over him. College or pro.

He's the only player from the decade of suck who will getting a standing ovation. He needs to retire a BIll./
I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?"
"Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet.
You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times."
                          It was all
true what he was saying. And yet, I thought something is brewing inside the head of this Coach.
He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can
mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.

If they let Freddy go I'll be simultaneously pissed off and thankful for him that he's finally escaped this mess he's been in

I might have thought that once, but the speed and ferocity of fans turning on ex-Bills is surprising even me.
