Source: Bills pushing hard to resign Easley

"Source tells me #Bills continue to work on re-signing Marcus Easley tonight. Still work to do. Told Jags and at least two others in play."

Like every other special teams star, someone is going to promise him time at WR and we will lose out.

Would hate to lose Easley. He's quite possibly the best ST cover guy in the game.

The timing of the release of this info indicates to me that the team was actually looking to bring Powell on board to replace two players, Freddie at running back depth and Easley on special teams. With Balil out of the picture, they needed to step up keeping their ST 'ace'.

It's simple. Our special teams isn't as good without him.

Which are not indicated on the stat sheet. I can't tell you how many fair catches he forces, or how many times he forces the returner to re-route based on his ability to get down the field and cover.

Re: Source: Bills pushing hard to resign Easley

The problem is that in order to afford expensive contracts we also need cheap contracts. Specifically rookie contracts. This is one of those spots that is "easier" to fill with a rookie. So if we deem him too important, that's fine, but then we need to find another slot where we can slot a cheap rookie contract. Like safety, we'll likely have a starter and a couple backups that are still on their rookie deals.

Cheap rookie contracts = more room for big star contracts.

I'm not sure I've seen enough out of Easley, to warrant the extra pay. Especially if the deal goes beyond this year or has any guaranteed money.

                          Screw Easley.

                          Not worth it.
