Jets looking at G James Carpenter

John Middlekauff of the 957 The Game reports that the Jets are signing free agent G James Carpenter.

Previous reports had said that the Jets could have interest in Carpenter, depending on what happens with Mike Iupat and Orlando Franklin. However, both of these players are reportedly signing with other teams, so Carpenter is at least in the discussion to be best remaining interior offensive lineman.

Carpenter, 25, was a surprise first-round pick in 2011 out of Alabama. He battled injuries throughout his first two seasons in the league, before starting 12 games last season.

Last year, Seattle declined to pick up his fifth-year option, which is why he was in position to reach the open market in the first place. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 47 guard out of 78 qualifying players.

We have Franklin listed as the No. 69 player in our Top 100 Free Agents list.

    Boling being tied to Minnesota

The Cincinnati Bengals want to keep Clint Boling, who appears set to enter free agency this Tuesday. But, one other team showing strong interest is the Minnesota Vikings.
