Charles Clay is visiting Buffalo to look for potential places to live, so he's feeling positive about <s style="text-decoration: none; color: rgb(102, 181, 210); ">#</s>Bills (https://twitter.com/hashtag/Bills?src=hash)' chances of landing him.

This feels like the Mario Williams visit.

Which means the offer will be far bigger than most could imagine and the Bills are trying to make it impossible for Miami to match.

Fine by me. I've been pushing the draft as the way to improve our OL all along. It's deep this year.

Without the 75 degree weather. I'll never forget that day, it was so warm out! March 15, 2012.

How are his blocking skills as a TE? I know he has great hands, but can he block?

As much as a 255 lb TE can.

Is Clay worth big money though? I get it that the TE market is thin, especially recently. I guess Rex and crew see something in him.

Clay is a good blocking TE.

He is not a speed demon or a monster like Gronk.

But Clay is versatile. He can catch the ball & he can stay in & block.

Clay is not worth paying 7 mil a year. They must really think he's that good?but I remember last year he would disappear for weeks and than have a decent game and disappear again.

Bring in a OL and draft a TE maybe we get lucky and maxx Williams falls to 50.

If you pay him more than 8 million a year Rex is ****ing insane.

I love Clay but he does not deserve top 10 TE money.

The question will be does Miami want to match the Bills offer to Clay?

I'm sure the contract will be structured in a way Miami does not like.

I have difficulty about any of that in light of the NFL dictating a flag if a defender so much as frowns at a receiver...

Maybe we should look at the best available TE in RD 2? Or just do what I suggested a while ago and trade out RD2/3 picks to get into the 1st and take BPA.

The cap hit this year on Suh's contract is only $6M.

It doesn't look like Miami would have difficultly matching a Bills offer solely due to the Suh contract.

I wonder if Clay is playing us just to get a bigger contract from Miami.

If the Fins want to match the Bills offer, I'm sure Clay would be happy about that.

Why wouldn't he be?

So the Bills need to structure Clay's contract so the Fins don't want to match it.

At the very least, make the Fins pay more for Clay than they want to.

SpikedLemonade

That could mean an offer of $13M base guaranteed this year and perhaps another $12M base guaranteed next year with later years at smaller base amounts of $3M - $4M and no signing bonus.

Not sure if this guy is really worth $10M per year.

TE Thomas signed for much less than that.

Lol...Miami is going to have us by the balls, forcing us to wait for an entire week as more players fall off of the board waiting for them to match.

Would be pity and a black mark for the front office if we get through 8-10 days of free agency with a fullback to show for it.

They have 5 business days to match.

This can all make Whaley look like an amateur.

If he was smart he would pass right now and move on. Oline, DT, DE and now definitely TE. Spikes would be my first call, but that isn't happening with the switch in defense and Hughes re-signing.

To accomplish what? Put an offer on the table, sit on their hands for a week until Miami matches, and have nothing but a FB to show for the first 8-10 of free agency? How clever of them.

Miami has about $10 million cap space on hand so they would have no problem matching Bills offer.

The catch is their future. Miami has a May option on Tennerhill for a fully guarantee of $16 million. There is no question they will pick up the option. More than likely they have to extend Tennerhill which means, however they do the extension, you can bet the cap hit to this year won't be less than $5 million. That's why they are actively restructuring now.

Suh and Tannenhill will count $40 million on the cap next season

I guess you don't watch Miami at all.

Clay has played WELL against the Bills.

You should have at least seen those games.

If you are drafted in the 1st round from pick 11 through 32 (Tannehill was selected 16th in 2012), then your option year salary is calculated by averaging the actual salary for the player at your position who is the 3rd highest paid player through the 25th highest paid player. Whatever that salary averages out to be becomes the option year salary.

Did I say he wasn't good? I don't think it's worth putting everything else on hold for a player we might get. If they are going to throw stupid money at him they should of been in on Thomas.

Saying you did not see the Bills fascination with Clay implied you don't think he is worth the effort.

Living in SW Fla I have seen Clay play a lot & I am fascinated with him & totally understand why the Bills are fascinated with him as well.

I will be EXCITED to watch Clay play in Red White & Blue.

The Dolphins bringing Jordan Cameron for an UFA visit is more telling to me then anything. If they were truly confident they could keep Clay would they bother bringing in Cameron? Maybe a smoke screen but not so sure.

Pretty good route runner, solid hands. Hard as **** to bring down.

The last part is why I would miss him the most:

Now he doesnt have top end speed and he isnt a seam buster. He is probably the only true H-back left in the NFL
