Would not surprise me at all if Harvin is signed

Well Chandler is below average so why does Clay need to be great?

Between this and Kyles extension we probably added 6 mill and sit around 19 mil under the cap (after Felton)

16 before Felton + 6 = 22 minus about 3 for Felton = 19 mil

Well, if TE wasn't a need before, it sure is now. Don't like this move, Chandler may not have been a Pro Bowler but he was decent enough at times and could have been kept around IMO instead of creating another hole that needs to be filled.

Lee Smith being gone begs the question who the blocking TE will be.

Yeah, we've got Gray (a tweener) and Gragg, plus some unknown. They need somebody that can block.

We are going to deploy a new formation that does not require an OL or a blocking TE.

That doesn't sound too conducive to ground and pound.

That doesn't sound too conducive to ground and pound.

You misunderstood that phrase.

It is the opposing defences which will pound our RBs and QB into the ground.

It was likely done to prove to Clay how committed we are to him being the TE. I don't like it but it isn't the worst move to make assuming we get Clay. I have a feeling we will as he was rumored to be also on Cleveland's radar but being he's been linked to us so long think we're just hammering something out to bring him here. The only thing I don't want is see Chandler ending up with a team in the division. Hopefully he goes to New Orleans. Yet even if we sign Clay doesn't mean we can't still draft a Jeff Heuerman late in the draft or even sign another free agent for depth.

I will say this if they actually get Clay and Harvin, then I can say we honestly have no idea what we are doing with the draft. It will be fun to watch. We need def front 7 depth, OL depth (to many unproven guys there), and a tall WR or TE (possession WR)

Better hope that the Fish don't match whatever offer they give Clay.

Or else there's no tight ends on the roster who've done anything of value in the NFL.

Very possible they do match given the 2015 salary cap hit for Suh is a low $6M.

We would need to give him an offer with a ridiculously high guaranteed base this year and next rather than a signing bonus that can be spread to 5 years.

Really don't like this move.

Clay is no guarantee, and the thought of replacing 2 TE's with a rookie and Chris Gragg makes me sick to my stomach.

If the Bills don't sign Clay, this is a huge mistake.

bills leading receiver over the past what four/five years or something

as a starting nfl pass catching te ive give him a c+. thats a bargain for what they were paying him

they must be pretty freakin confident they are gonna sign clay, which would make chandler expendable bc hes not much of a blocker. i assume the plan then would be to add a veteran blocking te and go with a couple kids behind them

Chandler was never going to take over a game like a Gates, Gonzales, Gronk, or Graham. Probably because his last name didn't start with a G (Get your **** together Gragg).

But I do not understnad why he was so constantly pilloried on this board. He was, as others have mentioned, a C+ talent. We can do worse and we absolutely have.

swiper
03-12-2015, 05:05 AM
He was B+ talent. Your problem is you insist on comparing him to A+ talent.

Moreover the Bills do not have a Brady, Rivers, or Brees throwing at them. Maybe had Chandler had that you would have felt different. I promise you Gronk has a very different NFL career if he lands on the Bills, Jets, Titans or Raiders.

I had a love/hate relationship with Chandler. He'd make some amazingly clutch catches and make me giddy, then he'd drop wide open passes and become the opposite of clutch.

I'd go from cheering to throwing empty booze bottles at the TV in the same game.

Good bye Scott.

Welcome back normal blood pressure.

This.

I found him maddening many times. Good catches but stripped of the ball many times and often couldn't catch the ball cleanly. Would bobble it like a hot potato before either bringing it or or dropping it. I was also not a fan of his blocking skills, where I saw him whiff on many a DE/LB who got by and made a big play.

It was time to go and he was paid well for a few years after being cut by Dallas. With the new regime, the days of settling for mediocrity are over, I'm hoping.

Chandler is the most one-dimensional turd. He can't do anything but run in straight lines. He cannot evade tacklers or take advantage of size mismatches on the outside. He has 0 semblance of athleticism. Not only that, but he can't block.

He's the epitome of a 1980s tight end and I could not be happier to see him gone. People here talk about dime-a-dozen RBs etc. This guy was the poster child for that in his time here.

I always thought he was a bum, fumbling games away we should have won.

That being said, with he and Smith gone, they better make sure they get Clay, or there will be a very big hole on the end of the line.

I can't believe the contract Smith got. I want 3 million dollars a year to catch 3 passes and get 20 holding penalties.

I never understood the hate for Chandler. He was consistently in the top 15 of TE's over the past 4 years while we had **** QB's.

2011 he was only 27th in total yards but also only played in 14 games. ETA: This was the year that Cj had a big year catching the ball and Stevie Johnson went over 1000 yards. This was Chan's Gailey's offensive scheme more than Chandler not getting targeted.
2012 he was 14th in total yards playing in 15 games. He had Fitzmagic throwing bounce passes to him in 2011 and 2012.
2013 he was 12th in total yards playing in all 16 games. He had Ej throwing to him most of the season and Thad Lewis for a few games.
2014 he dropped to 19th in total yards also playing in all 16 games. He had the tandem of Ej and Orton throwing him the ball.

He was a consistent performer who did a good job with the **** sandwich he was given.

He was maddening to watch. He'd come up with a clutch play, and yet drop a pass or fumble at a critical time. I don't know if there was a more up and down player in the Bills history. We can do worse than him, but also much better.

The Ravens are showing interest in free agent TE Scott Chandler.
The tight end market is shrinking now that Julius Thomas and Owen Daniels have signed with new teams. Charles Clay and Jordan Cameron don't appear to be options for Baltimore either. Chandler is a deeply flawed player with limited athleticism, but he's at least a big body Joe Flacco can look for around the red zone. Dennis Pitta's uncertain status has made the Ravens especially desperate to find a tight end. Mar 12 - 10:43 AM

Pretty much the same with CIN.
