    Interesting Note on Roman's Offense

The latest football news, analysis, and rankings from PFF. Featuring data-driven rankings and stats for NFL, fantasy football, and the NFL Draft.

This chart from PFF shows that Vernon Davis was actually rarely ever pass blocking in 2013.

Also shows some interesting stats on former Bills TEs Lee Smith and Scott Chandler.

Delanie Walker was in TEN last year but also rarely pass blocked.

I have read conflicting reports on how good Clay is as a blocker in the run game. He's top 10 in the pass game according to PFF.

Interesting that Frank Gore was used a lot for pass blocking.

lee smith is the perfect example of how dumb the average fan is

doesnt catch many passes so he automatically sucks. no ability to think outside of that whatsoever

I also don't remember all the huge running lanes opened by lee smith. Just put an extra ol in instead.

Lee Smith was a good blocker, no doubt about it. I'm not a huge fan of one-dimensional TEs.

Your point is valid, however, Lee Smith is a dead giveaway as to what you will do on plays he is involved in. Any linebacker on his side can automatically blitz as he knows Lee Smith is not a receiving target at all.

Saints will still run and ask Graham to block even though he isn't great at it but it makes them 2 dimensional. The threat of Graham breaking the seam is enough to keep LBs honest.

I remember ONE play Smith caught a pass for 6-7 yds & a first down.

I said damn, why don't they do that more often?

frankly im surprised they didnt keep smith here. then again, im surprised they cut chandler. i suspect they want to find some guys that can do both catch and block but who doesnt? i hope rexy or somebody explains the thought process on the TE position soon
