Bills had Gresham in their sights before surgery

Apparently, Charles Clay wasn't the only free-agent tight end the Buffalo Bills were interested in acquiring.

According to an NFL source, the Bills also were giving serious thought to signing Jermaine Gresham before he underwent surgery Thursday to repair a herniated disc. They were, the source said, willing to add Gresham in addition to Clay, whom they acquired Thursday after the Miami Dolphins chose not to match the offer sheet the Bills had given him as a transition-tagged player.

The Oakland Raiders had begun contract negotiations with Gresham before the back issue was discovered, and talks were put on hold. When Gresham will be cleared to return to football activity is unknown, but whenever that is, he is likely to resume talks with the Raiders.

    Very interesting.

They want another TE except one who is known for solid run blocking.

Wondering why Marquise Gray can't fill that void. Maybe they already know he is not that type of player.

If that's the case I see them going after Zach Miller (released by Hawks) as he is known as one of the best run blockers at the TE position. Smart player also.

They could still just wait for Gresham to recover. It sounds like he plans to keep playing.

I've had Miller on the radar since the beginning to bring in for blocking...I hope they do. If the above is true (they are looking for 2 TE's), than it's also true what Buscaglia said last week, that Chandler was a goner regardless of the quest for Clay.

Financials aside, I would be OK with Clay, Miller and Gray.
