    Compensatory Pick Day

Supposed to be announced sometime today. Not expecting Buffalo to get any, but whatever is given out will give us a better idea of what exact pick numbers we will be slotted at.

Makes sense, they lost Talib. NE & Bal play the comp system better than anyone. Both are in line for high comps next year as well due to losses this year.

I don't think Talib was one of the top 3 free agents last season.

It's a math formula, you cant cheat it.

We didn't get any for losing Byrd because we needed Chris ****ing Williams and Kieth Rivers just that badly

They signed more qualifying players than they lost. They lost Byrd & Carrington, but signed Spikes, Graham, Rivers & Williams.

Good point, he did cash in the most. But, Byrd was #2 on the list, and there isn't anybody that Buffalo lost or gained that was anywhere near the top 32.

                            http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents/2014/ufa/

The Comp picks don't work that way. Its not about who you lose right off the bat. Yes Byrd signed a huge contract but the FIRST criteria that the NFL has in their formula is who you lost versus who you gained by SHEER NUMBERS not talent.

Players who are cut from teams and signed by others do not count towards the formula.

                            The Bills last year lost:
                            Jairus Byrd
                            Alex Carrington
                            Arthur Moats

                            The Bills signed:
                            Keith Rivers
                            Chris Williams
                            Brandon Spikes
                            Corey Graham
                            Anthony Dixon

The Bills had a Net Gain of +2. This automatically disqualifies Buffalo from any comp picks in 2014 as happened today. It doesn't matter who you lose first. It matters based on who you gain vs who you lose.

                            Fast forward to this year:

So far the Bills have gained:
                            Tyrod Taylor
                            Jerome Felton
and maybe Charles Clay(not sure how he works because he was a transitioned tagged player)

                            The Bills have lost:
                            C.J Spiller
                            Da'Norris Searcy
                            Lee Smith
                            Erik Pears
and Brandon Spikes when he signs somewhere else.

Percy Harvin and Scott Chandler don't count towards the formula since they were released.

If Clay Counts, the Bills currently are looking at a net gain of -1. Which means they will receive one compensation pick next year. When Spikes signs, the Bills net gain will go to -2 which means they will receive 2 comp picks.

If Clay doesn't count, the Bills could be looking at anywhere from 2-3 comp picks based on what they lost.

Over the cap has a nice projection based on yearly salaries and where these picks usually end up.

•Cutoff points between rounds and qualifying as follows, based on the contract’s Average Per Year (APY):
                            ◦3rd/4th: $8,198,308 APY
                            ◦4th/5th: $5,703,872 APY
                            ◦5th/6th: $4,300,752 APY
                            ◦6th/7th: $2,289,254 APY
◦Minimum: $730,000 APY (representing the four year veteran minimum salary for 2015)

So lets look at the average per year of the players the Bills signed and the players they lost:

                            The Bills signed:
                            Felton: 2.3 Million APR
Taylor: 1.16 APR( May not qualify for a comp pick)
Clay: 7.6 APR (If he counts)

                            The Bills lost:
                            Spiller: 4.0 APR
                            Searcy: 5.9 APR
                            Pears: 2.3 APR
                            Smith: 3 APR

That means the Bills are currently looking at a 4th and a 5th rounder for Spiller and Searcy if Clay doesn't count. If he does Count the bills will most likely receive one pick at the moment a 4/5th rounder. When Spikes signs and additional pick could be added giving the Bills 2.

The Bills had a Net Gain of +2. This automatically disqualifies Buffalo from any comp picks in 2014 as happened today. It doesn't matter who you lose first. It matters based on who you gain vs who you lose.

                              Fast forward to this year:

So far the Bills have gained:
                              Tyrod Taylor
                              Jerome Felton
and maybe Charles Clay(not sure how he works because he was a transitioned tagged player)

                              The Bills have lost:
                              C.J Spiller
                              Da'Norris Searcy
                              Lee Smith
                              Erik Pears
and Brandon Spikes when he signs somewhere else.

Percy Harvin and Scott Chandler don't count towards the formula since they were released.

If Clay Counts, the Bills currently are looking at a net gain of -1. Which means they will receive one compensation pick next year. When Spikes signs, the Bills net gain will go to -2 which means they will receive 2 comp picks.

If Clay doesn't count, the Bills could be looking at anywhere from 2-3 comp picks based on what they lost.

Over the cap has a nice projection based on yearly salaries and where these picks usually end up.

•Cutoff points between rounds and qualifying as follows, based on the contract’s Average Per Year (APY):
                              ◦3rd/4th: $8,198,308 APY
                              ◦4th/5th: $5,703,872 APY
                              ◦5th/6th: $4,300,752 APY
                              ◦6th/7th: $2,289,254 APY
◦Minimum: $730,000 APY (representing the four year veteran minimum salary for 2015)

So lets look at the average per year of the players the Bills signed and the players they lost:

                              The Bills signed:
                              Felton: 2.3 Million APR
Taylor: 1.16 APR( May not qualify for a comp pick)
Clay: 7.6 APR (If he counts)

                              The Bills lost:
                              Spiller: 4.0 APR
                              Searcy: 5.9 APR
                              Pears: 2.3 APR
                              Smith: 3 APR

That means the Bills are currently looking at a 4th and a 5th rounder for Spiller and Searcy if Clay doesn't count. If he does Count the bills will most likely receive one pick at the moment a 4/5th rounder. When Spikes signs and additional pick could be added giving the Bills 2.
