Jets' top pick sacks holdout
Dewayne Robertson's goals this season are as big as his new bank account.
"I want to come in and help my team get to the Super Bowl and, hopefully, make the Pro Bowl as a rookie," the Jets' No. 1 pick said yesterday shortly after signing a seven-year contract. Robertson, the fourth overall choice, got a blockbuster deal that could be worth as much as $54 million if he hits various escalator clauses. He will make a total of $13 million in signing and option bonuses, although the initial payment is believed to be only $3 million.
Herman Edwards anointed Robertson as a starting defensive tackle. Edwards said the recent addition of veteran Chester McGlockton will ease the burden on Robertson.
Robertson said it was a "big brick off my back" to finalize his contract before the start of camp.

Jets | Martin Ready to Return to Form - from www.KFFL.com
Mon, 21 Jul 2003 17:44:35 -0700
Associated Press reports New York Jets RB Curtis Martin, who was bothered by ankle injuries most of the 2002 season, is finally healthy and looking forward to rebounding in the upcoming season. ''Last year was the most pain, the most hurt that I've probably had in my entire career,'' Martin said. After suffering injuries to both ankles last year, doctors had told Martin he'd miss eight-to-10 weeks of action but he still managed to play out the season and go over 1,000-yards rushing on the season. His coaching staff also has faith in a return to form. Head coach Herman Edwards said if Martin is healthy, "history says he is a 1,000-plus rusher."
