Coaches and scouts around the league think the most significant acquisition of the offseason was the Rams' trade for RT Kyle Turley. He will shore up the team's pass protection and allow QB Kurt Warner to do what he does best: go through his reads and exploit the best receiving matchups.

Last year, the Rams had to limit their passing game because RT John St. Clair didn't hold up in pass protection. The protection problems had a huge impact on Warner, and he ended up injured. Turley, acquired from the Saints for a 2004 second-round pick, looked great in the team's offseason workouts.

Former Browns C Dave Wohlabaugh, whom the Rams signed in the offseason, also will provide an upgrade in the middle. One problem, however, is the looming holdout of Pro Bowl LT Orlando Pace, whom the team designated its franchise player. Pace didn't participate in the team's offseason program, but look for him to come in before the season starts. . . .

The Buccaneers are talking to former Falcons RB Jamal Anderson about a comeback, and don't be surprised if he shows up at some point in training camp. With Michael Pittman's pending legal problems, coach Jon Gruden is auditioning almost every unemployed running back who has played in the NFL recently in an effort to avoid having to move FB Mike Alstott to running back. . . .
