The Bills may be in the market for a veteran safety. The team announced Tuesday free agent Dawan Landry is visiting One Bills Drive.

Landry is familiar with Rex Ryan's defense. He played for Ryan and new Bills defensive cordinator Dennis Thurman in New York as member of the Jets the past two seasons. Buffalo lost safety Da'Norris Searcy to Tennessee last month via free agency. They currently have Duke Williams, Jonathan Meeks, and Bacarri Rambo as options at safety opposite Aaron Williams.

Before the Jets, Landry spent five years in Baltimore with the Ravens and two years with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Last season he played all 16 games for the Jets, starting 14. Landry has recorded 100 or more total tackles in each of his past three seasons and four of the last five.

Landry can hit like a truck, but it looks like he is wearing shoes made of cement.

People say Spikes can't cover receivers. Well a strong safety has to cover receivers more than a MLB.

I saw some of them & they came after a first down was picked up MANY times.

Rex Ryan uses a 46 defense. Therefore he will need to identify or sign a S/LB hybrid player. Typically that is a player who is very strong against the run but also can drop deep and cover at a good level.

Anyone have Pierson Prioleau's number if we can't sign Landry? I kid as I actually would love to bring in Landry as think he could step in a start for us as while Duke Williams played well at times he also struggled and don't have much long term faith in Rambo/Meeks.

Yeah. I have to admit that I thought of Winfield when I read about Landry's tackle numbers and thought the same thing (about the downfield tackles). The upside was I don't think Winfield ever had those kind of tackle numbers.

Winfield also played CB which is a different position than SS.

That description definitely does not fit Landry's game at this point.

I would rather give Duke Williams or Bacarri Rambo a shot at that job than Landry.

if your S makes 100 tackles, there is something seriously wrong with your DL and LB's.
