    QB "Reality"

Just to play devils advocate ...

The following QB's are considered to be very good to elite at their position. Most of us believe if we had any one of them on our team we would have been in the playoffs and more with last years defense.

    Eli Manning 6-10
    Jay Cutler 5-11
    Drew Brees 7-9
    Matt Ryan 6-10
    Alex Smith 9-7
    Phillip Rivers 9-7
    Colin Kapernick 8-8
Cam Newton 7-8 (made the playoffs, but included him anyway due to not even finishing .500)

Where did having an elite QB get New Orleans, New York, Atlanta and San Diego?

QB is important, but is it more important than having a top 5 defense? Just a little food for thought ...

Well for starters it's not only about 1 season. Manning and Breese have SB wins and Ryan, Rivers and Smith have been to the championship game, Kap has been to the SB, Cutler is garbage and Newton isn't that good either. That's only 2 on the list who haven't at least gotten their team to the championship game.

Don't get me wrong, I think this team can win with a a Trent Dilfer performance at QB but to say they aren't important is false.

Not only rank the teams record but also the D ranking of their team. Including Buf D ranking.

you can make it to the playoffs without an elite qb, but you can't win the superbowl without elite play from the qb.

          Not true.
The patriots* just won the Super bowl & Brady was not elite at all this year, just above average.

And that includes the Super Bowl.

Just a reminder, I am not down playing the QB position in anyway, just wondering what is truly more valuable a top 15 QB or a top 5 defense ... how many times have we even seen both of those on 1 team?

On a rookie contract ... will that defense stay top 5 when that 100 million plus pay raise comes into play? Seattle has to be the exception.

if you honestly think 33 tds vs 9 ints with an under inflated ball is not elite. I don't know what to tell you. Brady is still elite

I would love to have that kind of average production.

QB's are just one piece of the puzzle, not the end-all, be-all.

Unfortunately for the Bills, it's the piece that fell on the floor as is assumed to have been eaten by the dog. Hopefully it turns up under the couch.

Most important position in all sports, bar none. Don't kid yourself. Even with a great defense, this is still generally the case.

If the Bills defense lives up to expectations this year, it's still imperative that the QB at least plays smart and protects the football. Call that a game manager if you like, but you still need a good one of those even with all of the other pieces in place.

Is the, "most important position in all sports," being phased out?

When Tom Brady, Peyton Manning and Drew Brees hang up their shoes and retire, what is the NFL going to look like at the QB position?

                            College football?

                              Nope.

In fact, the position is becoming more important as the rules change in their favor.

This isn't even open to debate. The QB is the lynchpin, and there is no doubt about it whatsoever. Who else touches the ball first on every play, barring special teams?
