New York Jets: The first big surprise of the draft came when Southern California defensive lineman Leonard Williams – whom Bills General Manager Doug Whaley called the best defensive player in the draft – slipped to New York at No. 6 overall. The Jets followed that by selecting a deep-ball threat in Ohio State wide receiver Devin Smith. On Day Three, New York added a project at quarterback in Baylor’s Bryce Petty. That’s a low-risk move that could pay off in a big way if Petty can sit for a year or two and develop.

Buffalo Bills: Giving second chances is one thing, but just how far is General Manager Doug Whaley willing to go with that philosophy? Fair enough, apparently, that a player who was wanted for questioning in a domestic violence case and also accused of setting up a drug deal that ended in an armed robbery now has a home in Buffalo.
That would be running back Karlos Williams, who had quite the week in October. First, police discontinued an investigation into Williams for alleged domestic abuse when the victim refused to provide a statement. Williams would not talk to police investigators.
The same was true during an investigation into an armed robbery that originally began after Williams allegedly negotiated a marijuana deal involving a 26-year-old Florida State student, Freightlin Cox, and Daravius “Gutta” Lawrence, the brother of Miranda Wilhelm – the woman Williams was accused of assaulting.
Williams is accused of setting up a time for Lawrence and Cox to meet and make the drug deal, which ended with two unidentified men robbing Cox at gunpoint. Williams again refused to speak to police investigators.
Which leads us to the Bills, and what exactly they were thinking. Why is a fifth-round running back who is going to be buried on the depth chart worth the trouble?
This comes after the team selected Florida State cornerback Ronald Darby in the second round. At best, Darby has a knack for finding himself in the wrong place at the wrong time. At worst, he helped cover up a rape by Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston.
These are the players that Whaley feels comfortable with bringing to Western New York.
