After being asked if he'll play pro next year, Jack Eichel says in IIHF interview that "my heart will tell me what to do."

I think he wants another run at the frozen four. Had boston university Won, I don't think he would even question it.

At any rate, I'm fine with him going back for another year. Hell, if he does, we can start an Austin Mathews watch thread!

So what are the odds Eichel never wears a Sabre uni?

Um... 1 in a thousand? I mean reporters have said that he has said he is looking forward to playing for buffalo. No reason to believe otherwise. The kid might just wanna stick in college another year.

He doesn't belong in college.

He doesn't belong in college.

No, he's NHL ready. Going back to college would be silly. But it sounds like coming up short in the title game may still sting and he wants that championship.

He'll get over that when the check is ready to go in front of him, money overcomes stings.

He will easily make up for the lost one year check when he signs his next contract if he performs much better during his ECL as a player one year more developed in college with hopefully a Sabres team that is further along in its rebuild than it is now.

Go get that NCAA Championship young man.

Guys, he slammed a beer, and said "Buffalo I'm coming for ya" Do we really even need to worry about this at all?? I say he** no!! His heart will tell, and has been telling him, he'll be a Sabre

odds of not wearing a sabres sweater if drafted is near zero. he can go back to school, but the sabres have his rights for 3 years. no way he sits out 3 years to spite buffalo.

His wallet will tell him what to do. The sooner he signs the sooner he is a UFA which equals the real dough.

Doubtful that would happen. He may go back to college for one more year, but this isn't a holdout situation.

In terms of not donning a sabres jersey, better are odds are because Edmonton drafts him then he holds out for 3 years.

Are you kidding? I'm sure he'd play for Edmonton. It's the perfect NHL training camp so he'll be ready to sign with a good team once his rookie contract expires.

i think i wrote that wrong. i mean. in terms of him never wearing a sabres jersey, its more likely because edmonton drafts him, over holding out to become a free agent in 3 years after buffalo drafts him.

And theres no reason to spite buffalo. Not sure why that notion even got created

I don't know either, but there seems to be a small minority of people who worry about such things.

Frankly, even though he's just a kid, he seems fairly classy about the whole thing. there was an interview where he was asked to hold a sabres tshirt and he put his head down for the pic. he says the right things. and he's 18.

i'm growing to like him as the consolation prize. i really hope we aren't trading the farm to move up for mcdavid.

No need to get worked up. He really has nothing to prove staying in college. Playing in the IIHF he has been one of the best players out there and it shows he is ready for the NHL.

I really think he will go pro but the Sabres lose nothing if he stays. It's not like they are in contention for the Cup next year. It would suck as a fan because I would love to watch him play next year donning a Sabres jersey.

From a development standpoint there's no reason whatsoever for him to go back to college.

in the interview he's said he needs to bulk up this offseason for the next level.

hes going pro

I think he is too. But he's saying the right things. There was talk last season of him going to the QMJHL next season, as he was drafted. Obviously, that's cooled off, but yeah, I think he knows.
