Once NHL Central Scouting finalized the rankings of the top 2015 NHL Draft-eligible prospects earlier this month, the focus shifted to the NHL Scouting Combine, to be held June 1-6 in Buffalo, N.Y.
Among those scheduled to take part in the Combine are Central Scouting's top two players in its final ranking of the top North American skaters, centers Connor McDavid (http://www.nhl.com/ice/draftprospectdetail.htm?dpid=86187) of the Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League and Jack Eichel (http://www.nhl.com/ice/draftprospectdetail.htm?dpid=86111) of Boston University of Hockey East.

The Combine will be held for the first time in Buffalo, at First Niagara Center and HarborCenter. Teams will have the opportunity for 1-on-1 interviews with the prospects at First Niagara Center from June 1-5. The medical examinations of each player will take place June 4, and a majority of the fitness testing will take place June 6 at HarborCenter. No player can test until clearing the medical screening.

Prediction: The Buffalo spin on the Combine will be how little difference there is between McDavid and Eichel and how in some ways Eichel is better.

How about the Sabres move up for McDavid ??

Even a rumour of that should be enough to convince Eichel to go back to college this year. With Murray's previous statements, that would make him look incompetent and unprofessional. Even personality dysfunctional Murray is too smart to make that mistake.

Actually, there have been some whispers after eichels showing at the world's that Edmonton is at least looking at eichel. The hype train surrounding eichel picked up considerably.

Probably doesn't mean much. It's whispers. But eichel improved his stock at the worlds.

There's a coin toss between the 2 as to who will have the better career, Jack seems more blue collar.

I see eichel as a world class player, potentially, but for the long haul of his career? Probably mcdavid will be better. Doesn't mean eichel won't have some seasons where he puts up better numbers on occasion.

Prediction: the Sabres will run an excellent Combine and will receive a ton of positive press, sending Spiked into a jealous rage.

He's been pretty funny lately, so maybe he will just relax.

You guys earned that pick by setting a record for the worst record over two consecutive years by a non-new franchise NHL team.

No one can take that pick away from you.

You should feel entitled to that draft pick.

What you are not entitled to is the assumption that deliberately losing for 2 years means you will one day be in the Stanley Cup Finals. To do that, you need to do more than lose on purpose.

An autistic monkey can lose on purpose.

It takes actual management talent to win.

I think there are some teams who would have taken Jack #1, but I don't consider Edmonton among them. They need to take the Canadian.

Well, you haven't given murray the chance to win. Maybe he can do that too.

I can appreciate that Eichel will be a very good possibly even great player. Have you seen McDavid play? If you have there is no way this boils down to a nationality thing.

Before the Sabres, no one other than his uncle gave him a chance outside of a pure scouting job either.

When I listen to Murray recently, he keeps talking about how he is learning and is being given a chance to learn from new processes to him (interviewing a head coach for example). I'm not sure if being a NHL GM is where you learn on the job.

It could all work out in the end, but an experienced GM may be what is required in Buffalo.

Pretty sure all AGM are learning on the job when they get that promotion. Also the GMs who weren't AGM prior to. Working out for the lightning just fine, whose GM Is also socially awkward.

Murray doesn't need to talk at all. One of the best in the business Ken Holland is barely on camera. It isn't a job requirement. The media just wants to talk to him in case he puts his foot in his mouth again.

It's funny, they did an interview with murray about a week ago after the babcock signing in toronto. He gave WGR 10+ extra minutes and was joking and laughing with them. The only part that was slightly off was when he said the media needs to stop creating false stories, like the one where supposedly the front office was livid with babcock for not signing, which he said wasn't true. Outside that, he seems fine. A little matter of fact when he talks, but not much else.

He had one poor moment, which was taken out of context, which he than clarified and the guy he supposedly slammed, completely understood his comments.

As for ken holland, he actually is on TV quite a bit here in Michigan on anything that has to do with fox sports detroit and the red wings. And he talks alot like murray. Short, matter of fact statements.

For someone who doesn't care, you sure do seem obsessed with Buffalo and GMTM.

Honestly I don't care how he talks or what he does, as long as he can evaluate talent. He has to make those picks count or all of the rebuild pain has been for nothing.

No doubt about it. Jury is still out. But the hatred from certain people on him is very trivial and petty.

spiked's run was fun. he got most of it out of his system, and as the sabres build up and the bruins fade away, we'll probably not hear spike talk about this.

much like how toronto had to get the bills
how buffalo had no future

pretty much anything spiked gets upset about seems to work out for buffalo fans.

tute on, spike. tute on!
