In 11-on-11 to start practice, Manuel (who was not facing the Bills starting DL, more on that below), didn’t throw an incompletion in five pass attempts. And all were of different varieties. Short, long, crossing, etc.. He hit Marquise Goodwin for a deep TD down the right sideline. Goodwin beat Ron Brooks on the play.

All of Mike Rodak's tweets seem to agree that EJ looked pretty sharp and Cassel continues to struggle.

So I guess this wraps it up, EJ is the starter

I wouldn't pencil in anyone without pads on, especially this early in the game.

None of Buffalo’s quarterbacks faced the Bills starting defensive line in team work on Thursday. Ryan stated that was by design so the offensive units could move the ball a bit more effectively. Still, he liked what he saw from Manuel in the final minicamp practice.
“He has had some moments,” said Ryan. “I thought EJ did well, he threw the touchdown pass in the two minute. Kind of looked a little watered down there on defense, but it was good. It was great to see. He looked pretty good and he had some nice plays.”

The Bills starting Defense is going to make a lot of GOOD QB's look MEDIOCRE next season.

Once again, none of the QB's faced the starting defense, and they all sucked except for EJ. So why is the focus only that he didnt play against them.

Regardless, I'm pulling for EJ. He still has the highest ceiling of the guys we have (Taylor was horrid in college and he was drafted in the 6th or whatever for a reason) and him playing well and out right winning the starting job is good for us if he remotely starts to "get it".

EJ is the only QB on the roster with upside, so I'm hoping he wins the competition and either goes out and lights the league on fire helping the Bills to the playoffs - so that everyone will know that QB position is something that doesn't need to be addressed for a while....OR....he wins the competition, completely bombs out and makes the franchise realize that priority one this offseason is drafting another QB.

A middling year where he shows few signs and a lot of garbage, which is about what he's done so far here, leaves another year of allowing him to play and setting the franchise back another season from getting the necessary improvement in place to become a playoff, let alone championship, caliber team.

100% agree... If he wins the competition, I need to see >60%, >3,5600 yards, >20 TD's, <10 turnovers or I go into next season looing a all costs

It's funny how none of it matters when they suck, but the EJ rah-rah crowd comes out and tells us it does when he has an early summer day in shorts where he completed a couple of passes.

If Cassel or Taylor had a good day Thursday & EJ sucked, you would be the FIRST on the board to tell us about it.

He was not, 'horrid,' in college. Taylor had an excellent senior season.

3,400 yards of total production and 29 TD's in 14 games with 5 Int's.

No upside there? Ozzie Newsome saw upside. So did Rex Ryan.

The stats make it look like Virginia Tech thought he was just a running quarterback and then they realized Taylor could pass too.

http://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/ej-manuel-1.html

EJ had 3,700 yards of production and 27 TD's in 14 games with 10 Int's.

558 passing attempts for Taylor in his junior and senior seasons.

698 passing attempts for Manuel in his junior and senior seasons.

EJ Manuel also had a lot more talent to work with than Taylor had at Virginia Tech.

Tyrod Taylor put up better numbers his senior year than EJ Manuel did.

The problem when comparing stats for stats sake is were Tyrod's numbers inflated say because he had to pass more later as his team was behind and he was forced to pass more? There was a reason he was a 6th Round pick. My biggest concern is in reviewing his preseason stats with Baltimore he doesn't seem to have a good completion percentage when he's passing over 20 times again which infers he's not an accurate QB.

Please post the link to Tyrod Taylor's preseason stats with Baltimore.

The only link I could find was last year's preseason stats. Taylor had a 64% completion percentage, 3 TD's and 2 Int's.

Tyrod couldn't even put up 60% completion in that year, how can he do that in the NFL?. EJ did have more talent, but he also had a higher completion rate and thats what I'm most interested in.

Also in their senior seasons EJ threw for 654 on 72 more attempts. He had a higher passer rating and a higher completion percentage. I don't see better numbers in anything other than TD to INT ratio. Overall EJ put up better numbers

Who cares if Rex Ryan saw upside in a 6th round pick, I don't trust anything about Rex Ryans offensive opinion

I know all this looks like I'm saying that EJ is a superstar, I'm not. All I'm saying is that its ridiculous to think that a former 6th round pick who has never thrown a meaningful pass in the NFL is just going to walk into camp and become an elite QB. He was a 6th round pick for a reason.

I will bet anything that he is not the starter day 1

6th round? Why if only Flacco had an artery shredded just like Bledsoe, Taylor would be on his way to the HOF.

I don't think that anyone has predicted that Taylor would "...walk into camp and become an elite QB."

I can't predict who will win the QB battle, but it is not outside the realm of reason that Taylor has a shot.

And now that OTA's have ended, EJ is the clear winner of the OTA's for the starters job according to everyone in the media.

It is EARLY, pads have not come on yet, but so far so good for EJ.

The most surprising OTA note I saw was that they still had Fred Jackson in the rotation to return kicks.
