Clemson OT Isaiah Battle to enter NFL Supplemental Draft

Clemson Tigers offensive tackle Isaiah Battle will enter the NFL Supplemental Draft, the school announced on Thursday. Battle cites family matters as the biggest reason for foregoing another season with Clemson, saying it is in his best interest to enter the NFL sooner rather than later.

"I have some family matters to address, with a child due this summer, and I feel it is in my best interest to enter the NFL Supplemental Draft," Battle said in a statement, "I want to thank everyone at Clemson, especially Coach Swinney and the assistant coaches, for what they have done for me the last three years."

Battle played in 27 games for the Tigers over the last three seasons, starting 16 of them. Last season, he started 11 of 12 games and was a rock on Clemson's offensive line....

....Now, entering the supplemental draft, it's unclear where NFL teams would place his value. With training camp coming up, there's obviously room for him to find a team and compete, but most teams have already either found starters or determined who will fight it out for starting spots at their various offensive line spots.

The supplemental draft is held annually in July, though no exact date has been set for 2015's just yet. The point of the draft is to allow players who did not enter or were not eligible for the regular draft to be selected by teams.

If a team is interested in drafting a player, they submit the player's name and the corresponding round in which they would take them. Teams are grouped by a win/loss record, so the team with the worst record and the highest bid will be awarded the player. They will lose their pick from that round in the following year's regular NFL Draft....

Isaiah Battle will forego his senior season with Clemson and enter the NFL Supplemental Draft in July.

Perhaps the Bills should place a 4th round bid on him.

I'm assuming he's better than Tyson Chandler so he's probably worth a late round pick.

@BruceFeldmanCFB: #Clemson LT Isaiah Battle to Supplemental Draft..Am told he was ranked #2 OT among SRs behind Ronnie Stanley by a major NFL scouting bureau.

It may take more than a 4th round pick.

Suspended in 2013 for punching another player.

Battle is just the kind of Tiger BULLY Rex loves.

Re-signing Cordy Glenn is going to be tough so it could be a fairly prudent move if they can get him for a 3rd or less.

Rex should have some inside info about him given that his son was teammate of his at Clemson.

I don't like this talk of Glenn leaving. Keep Glenn, keep the pick, cut loose Gilmore if necessary.

@MoveTheSticks: Studied Clemson OT Isaiah Battle. Ideal size (6'6 1/2 326) & length (35 1/4 inch arms). Quick feet & flashes power but plays too high/narrow

I would not be happy about losing Glenn either.

But after this season, I think you will not be so ready to get rid of Gilmore.

Wouldn't bother me if they get him mid or later rounds as a bargain, wouldn't bother me if they don't. We're well stocked with maybe's anyway and there is a whole 'nother year to find out about them and look at a fresh crop of maybe for 2016 with another year under their belts.

He's fine, but I don't see him being less expendable than Glenn.

Re: Clemson OT Isaiah Battle to enter NFL Supplemental Draft

CBS Sports ranked Battle the #5 OT for the 2016 NFL Draft class.

Here is a write-up from CBS on Battle:

For the first time since the Cleveland Browns invested a second round pick in wide receiver Josh Gordon in 2012, there will be a player selected in the NFL's annual Supplemental Draft.

At least, that's the early opinion of one highly-ranked NFL scout after news surfaced this week that 6-foot-6, 290 pound left tackle Isaiah Battle will be leaving Clemson early.

"Big upside athletically," the scout wrote in a text message. While the scout wouldn't go so far as to give a round projection, he expected that clubs would "definitely" be interested in the 22-year old Brooklyn, NY native, assuming that Battle checks out medically and character-wise.

NFL Networks Daniel Jeremiah (former NFL Scout) said that based just on tape and not on character concerns Battle is a 3rd Round type prospect for the Supplemental Draft.

The off the field issues that Jeremiah wasn't commenting on was the rumor that Battle had failed a third drug test at Clemson and was facing a lengthy suspension.

Profootball talk is saying there is speculation Battle was asked to leave Clemson.

Sounds like the guy has some issues.

I think he would be worth the gamble in the 4th or 5th rnd.
