I would hope as not sure why we need a 35 year old centerman and he doesn't look like a guy that will help get us to the cap floor as he's not making big money in he's due $2.5 million in 2014-15 and $3.5 million in 2015-16.

I eluded in an earlier thread that Lehner seemed like the perfect fit for us with his GMTM ties and his age but I question if he can be a #1 net minder with his stats the last two seasons. I'm indifferent of the pick because it's just an X factor right now.

Unrestricted free agent career - 2.39 GAA, .916 S% (Niemi)
Robin Lehner career - 2.88 GAA, .914 S%

Why give up a 1st? If we can't get O'Reilly because of this, that would suck.

Lehner is 8 years younger than Niemi. That's the reason you make the trade. Yet I think a 1st a little too much for him but I guess Legwand helps but as Cher eluded not sure we have much need for him.

I agree the 21st seems a bit much, but with the goalie situation I think all the GM's knew we'd have to overpay a bit. I'm not sure about Legwand either....sounds like Ottawa just wanted him off their books. A 4th liner? Perhaps. Maybe he'll be packaged with another trade.

No doubt but where does it help us? I mean I don't mind taking a dump on a guy that could be a top 6 forward but that's not Legwand to me at best he's a third liner. All I can say as maybe as a former 2nd overall pick they think he be a good mentor for Eichel but honestly I don't think he adds much.

I wonder what this says about the plan going forward. I think we'll know a lot by the end of the weekend.

I don't know whether I'd rather see them continue to be patient and draft young players, or make more deals like this and the Kane trade.

I think I would like to see them make a deal for ROR. I hope this doesn't rule that out. This could be an entertaining team right away if they could pull it off.

isnt that the same logic applied when the sabres traded away their players, but you cried they were ruining the integrity of the game?

maybe the bruins are tanking. trading away players for picks, they missed the playoffs last year after all.

6 days during the off-season is the same as mid-season to you?

You're reaching.

Probably internally upset about the Lehner trade.

Don't stress yourself into a concussion.

Sabres pay the price to get Lehner

...Lehner, 23, is a promising young goaltender, though one that has experienced some difficulties with more playing time, posting a .910 save percentage in 56 games over the past couple of seasons.

At 6-foot-5, Lehner's frame covers a lot of the net, and when he's on, he looks every bit a future number one goaltender. However, his focus isn't always where it needs to be. Using War-on-Ice's definitions for low-medium-high danger save percentages, Lehner ranked 52nd out of 53 goaltenders (http://war-on-ice.com/goalietable.html?mansit=&homeawaysit=1&scoresit=8&team=&playoffs=All&start1=2014-10-01&end1=2015-04-15) that played at least 1000 5-on-5 minutes last season when it came to low-danger shots. Those are the ones that he really should stop.

Lehner also hasn't played since suffering a concussion in February, after colliding with teammate Clarke MacArthur, but he's been cleared to return to action....

Seriously. Sabres acquired a starting goalie in exchange for a pick that wouldn't even make the club (if at all) for a year or two.

Yet will Lehner be starting in 2017? As his numbers the last two seasons in Ottawa look below average with a GAA over 3.00 and around SP around .910. Don't get me wrong I eluded that felt due to his age he be the best of goalies available yet it's a tough pill to swallow as I was hoping to get a top 6 forward in a trade for pick 21. I can't say for certain that Lehner is any better than Neuvirth except of course he's younger. I've already posted by thoughts on Legwand. I won't say it's a bad trade but I wouldn't say it's a good one either as a result I guess it's meh. Now if GMTM can make some moves this weekend that secure us a top 6 forward than I'll forgive him. I've read somewhere that Jeff Skinner might be available from Carolina and posted in the past I'd take a chance on him and still would.

I thought you loved Hanifin? Personally if I'm adding a Dman I add a veteran. I'd love to bring Sekera or even Ehrhoff back if we're playing for the playoffs next year but doubt it instead we'll probably be middle of the road team assuming Eichel and Reinhart are both in the blue and gold as think we need them both to improve.
