Who's The Number 2 Starting Wide Receiver For The Bills In 2015?

Sammy Watkins is the uno, who's the dos?

    Percy Harvin?

    Robert Woods?

    Chris Hogan?

    Dezmin Lewis?

The slot (3rd) wide receiver doesn't see a lot of time in Greg Roman's offense.

His power run heavy offense usually has an extra tight end on the field instead of a slot receiver.

    Who wins the competition?

    My money is on Woods.

who else could it possibly be?

harvin has a ton of ground to catch up to where woods is as a wr professional and would need either a miraculous start or injury to woods to get the job

        nobody else is even close

Woods is a promising possession wideout, but he's the one that needs to keep developing. Harvin is a knucklehead and an injury risk, but the guy is really, really good when his head is on straight.

That said, Woods' game is better suited to be the flanker wideout so I think he'll see more snaps in Roman's offense.

Re: Who's The Number 2 Starting Wide Receiver For The Bills In 2015?

Number two, as, who is going to have the second most targets or receptions? I think it all depends on how they utilize Sammy Watkins. Everyone knows and believes he is the de facto number one WR but I have an awful feeling that with the run heavy offense prescribed by Greg Roman and the question mark at QB, we may not get to see the full potential of Sammy Watkins reached in the Bills offense. His skills and abilities might work against him. If they use him as a deep threat, he won't see the ball as often as say, Bob Woods, who will run the shorter routes and find soft spots behind the line backers. Both EJ and Cassell have terrible accuracy on long throws. Additionally, EJ has difficulty leading a WR, which would compliment Sammy's game.

I'm gonna make a bold prediction because it's summer time and why not, Watkins will be the #2.

Why is Dezmin Lewis is even on this list? I vote him.

Until Wadkins is healthy, Woods is our #1 WR.

He runs great routes and has hands of glue. He'd be a star on a team with an actual QB.

I see your point and think it's a valid point, but I respectfully disagree. I think they're going to find a ton of ways to find Sammy the ball. WR screens, quick slants, deep balls, intermediate routes, etc. Sammy has an incredible work ethic and will be able to run any route. He's the most explosive WR on the team and needs the ball a lot. Percy, Clay, and Woods are all good enough to stretch the field and open up intermediate routes. I don't think Sammy will be immune to playing that role, but it won't be his primary role, thus allowing Woods to be the team leader in catches.

I think you're right in that Robert is going to get a ton of balls thrown to him as well. He's very good at running intermediate routes and I think is underrated in his YAC ability.

It'll be interesting to see the catch totals between Sammy, Woods, Harvin, Clay, McCoy, Hogan, and everyone else.

Gotcha, good points all around. In the same way Marrone and Co. couldn't get Spiller the ball, I think Ryan and Roman will have the same difficulty in getting Watkins the ball. So in a round about way, my point is not critiquing or criticizing Watkins' game, but more so the coaching staff's inability to take advantage of him.

Hell, I could be wrong and Watkins could light defenses' asses on fire. And I'm basing my opinion on last year, which was Hackett's miserable offense.

Consider that there are a ton of options available for whoever is QB. If we have Manuel or Taylor back there, they are most likely going to the well that gets them the most water. That could be Fred Jackson or McCoy out of the backfield, Bob Woods sitting behind the linebackers, Clay doing his thing or whatevs.

If it is Watkins, he's gonna have to be utilized closer to the LOS on bubble screens, pick plays, etc.

Going against my point, too, a knock against Woods is that he tends to disappear for a quarter or two at a time. If he's going to ascend to the Number 1 spot, he needs to be a consistent threat and show up for all 4 quarters, not just when he wants to.
