Sabres bring back Varone on 1 yr. 2 way deal

The Buffalo Sabres have re-signed forward Philip Varone, the team announced Monday.

Varone was the Sabres’ lone arbitration filing, but that’s been settled now, as the team brought him back for at least one more year. The two sides are thus able to avoid an arbitration hearing, which otherwise would have occurred later this summer.

Varone’s new deal with the Buffalo Sabres is, yet again, a two-way deal, which means he’s likely to spend at least part of the year in the AHL with the Rochester Americans.

      Sabres, Varone agree to deal

The Buffalo Sabres announced on Monday that the team has signed forward Phil Varone to a one-year, two-way contract.

Varone appeared in 28 NHL games during three recalls with the Sabres in 2014-15, recording five points (3g, 2a) and 10 penalty minutes.

He has appeared in 262 regular-season games in four seasons with Rochester, totaling 192 points and 164 penalty minutes. Varone signed his first NHL contract with the Sabres in March 2012.

I wanna see what this kid can do. I feel he should have been up all season last year. Throw away year, what's the worst that can happen.
