The offensive staff has carefully scripted the snaps for each of the three quarterbacks in the competition for the starting job. Rex Ryan and his assistants have made a concerted effort to give equal opportunity to the signal callers, not just in terms of reps, but reps with the starting unit.

“They’ll all have opportunities to play with the ones,” said Ryan of his three competing quarterbacks. “We’re going to have six possessions with the ones, six with the twos and six with the threes and all quarterbacks will have two possessions with the ones. We’ll see if there’s any separation.”

Ryan also said that this is the first step toward real evaluation of the quarterbacks in a true game-like setting.

I read that too.

The guy drives me crazy because he could be good if he can hold onto the freakin' ball. Two good runs and then a fumble...

It doesn't matter where the staff is. The fact that we are 5 weeks out from the first game and have no definitive starter at QB is disconcerting no matter what they decide.

We have guys named Cassel, Manuel, Taylor and Simms. Did anybody really think one from that group would distinguish themself above the others after one week of training camp?

Funny thing is, that if the offense scored multiple times, many here would be livid about the defense. To base so much off an inter squad scrimmage is what is disconcerting. A brand new offense, against a top 5 defense isn't a true evaluation.

Make whatever excuse you want for offensive incompetence. Just don't be surprised when the O doesn't get magically better in the next 5 weeks and is equally incompetent when the games count.

They're going to run the ball, it won't be incompetent. The passing game will just be incompetent but you won't see it much. So we're looking at some degree of incompetent but not woefully incompetent for the most part. You have to see more nuance in the levels of incompetent which will make you feel better on most plays Mr. Frownyface guy, Prince of Unhappy Gloombritches.

It's impossible to run the ball without a credible passing threat because they will just put 8 or 9 in the box every time.

I think we're going to have to call in a QB that's cut from another team because we have no one that can play, EJ is the first cut.

That's what the Steelers were thinking when Tim Tebow beat them in that playoff game for the Broncos.

You totally disrespect the threat, and it's going to cost you if you don't protect the back-end.

These guys are all professionals, so ineptness is a matter of degree.

This is déjà vu from last year when Orton was signed after a stinky pre-season.

Kyle Orton is better than what we currently have.

It's the first scrimmage. These things happen. This scrimmage will give the coaches an idea of what they have to go back to work on. Not too worried about it.

#Bills (https://twitter.com/hashtag/Bills?src=hash) HC Rex Ryan: It's not surprising that we never lit it up on offense. That usually doesn't happen with the first scrimmage

Jay Skurski @JaySkurski (https://twitter.com/JaySkurski)

Unofficial passing stats from tonight's #Bills (https://twitter.com/hashtag/Bills?src=hash) scrimmage: EJ Manuel 5-11, 104 yds, 1 TD; Matt Cassel 2-6, 27 yds; Tyrod Taylor 8-13, 77 yds.

#Bills (https://twitter.com/hashtag/Bills?src=hash) HC Rex Ryan: Tyrod Taylor, I was a little disappointed in him. I think he'd like to have a couple throws back

1 – EJ fares well, Cassel the probable for Carolina
On a night when the offense’s big plays were somewhat scattered over the course of 18 series, head coach Rex Ryan liked what he saw from EJ Manuel the most.

“I really thought EJ did a nice job,” said Ryan. “He had a real nice ball early to Percy (Harvin). Percy made a real nice catch and then (EJ) had that real nice run. So I was impressed by EJ. The other guys Matt (Cassel) we were running the ball specifically with him early and then he made some throws. I think Tyrod I was a little disappointed in him because I’ve seen him make those throws for a touchdown before. I think he’d like to have a couple of throws back. He did some nice things, but I think he probably wants a couple of throws back.”

so our HC liked EJ the best.

he is the best we have those 2 other journeyman IMO are here to push EJ AND WILL ONLY BE USED if the wheels fall off.

but of course wht the HC says is meaningless to message board gurus
