Cassel will start 1st preaseason game.

Via Rex after going 2-6 for 27 yards in the scrimmage. Always good to reward excellence.

You can look through the tweets.

The Bills conducted a full-squad scrimmage on Saturday night. The defense dominated. Here's a quick and dirty run-through of the big story lines coming out of the session.

I dont understand this. Most reports saw he's been consistently bad. Why would they want him to have the first shot?

I don't know, maybe they figure he needs the most practice or want to give up on him quickest.

I sense a lot of frustration coming this year as a Bills fan.

To some extent but not as bad as the crap teams and knowing 8-8 was a pipe dream.

Maybe they just want to make sure that EJ or Tyrod are starting the all important 3rd preseason game and can say that they gave Cassel a fair shot at the starting job by letting him start the first preseason game. Game 1 is usually pretty vanilla and sloppy. Let Cassel start and look bad as usual, and then move on.

Cassell handed off more apparently, which fits in with the grouind-and-pound philosophy. Obviously throwing more than ten times hurt EJ and Tyrod, because they don't have as good of a grasp on the offense at this point.

Well he handed off more and passed 33% for 27 yards. I don't care what the philosophy is behind why his number suck, the fact is they do suck. It doesn't seem like Matt Cassel has been better than any of the other two options, who both are younger along with a smaller cap hit. From all reports Matt Cassel has been consistently below average, and this should not be rewarded.

I understand that they need to get a good look at the running aspect of our offense, but I'm not worried about the running game. For me it seems like they didn't trust Cassel to pass so they gave him all the run plays instead, that can't bode too well for him

I would guess they are going to have each guy start a game with the one they have in mind starting the third not the first. Relax.

Probably because the other options are also bad.

Not a ringing endorsement of Cassel, but he'd probably play smarter than the others, and at least he has experience.

Yeah I see that now, sorry about that this QB situation just is awful. The points about Cassel still ring true.

I would be much more frustrated watching Cassel play BORING football than watching EJ or Tyrod sling it.
