if Cleveland offers their 2016 4th round pick?

I was talking to a friend today and he asked me that. Funny two week ago, it may be a no brainer -- how could you get anything for EJ? Today it may also be a no brainer -- how could you write off his potential now you see he may really have something there? Tyrod showed what he could be after 4 years in NFL. What about EJ next year?

Why is this even a question?

Stupid thread.

Yeah, let's trade away a 6'5'' 240 LB QB that is finally getting NFL coaching for a late draft pick.

To Green Bay for Aaron Rodgers maybe ...... so that would be a NFW.

I'd trade him for a 4th in half a heartbeat. Less than half.

I would give them Cassell for that.

I would not trade him.

I also would not start him.

EJ has some time left of his rookie deal which essentially makes him cheap for a team to trade for him and let him"develope". He played good enough in the preseason to be worth something (the amount of compensation is up for debate). IMO if a team offered me a 6th round pick that turns into a 4th based on incentives then I take it. Remember if he is traded the bills not only get that draft compensation but also get rid of his contract and it no longer counts on the cap. If you cut him you take the cap hit.

A QB is a valuable commodity. The Bills have 3 that fans are fighting over which should start. I, for one, would hold on to them tightly. Injuries happen. to every team. When a team is desperate, the Bills could bets parlay the 3rd into a 4th or better. Carrying 3 QBs makes much more sense than keeping a kick-off specialist.

I rewatched the game and as good as EJ was he had one pass that was so typical EJ where he threw it into the ground 5 yards in front of the receiver.

I am proud of EJ and is by far one of the most likeable, hard working, guys I've ever seen. With that said he has a ceiling and I would trade him if we get enough compensation. At this point Id rather trade Cassel who I neither like or think has much talent but the coaches may know more than us.

No, AFAIK both is the same cap-wise. You always get the cap hit of his pro-rated bonus. Of course the salary is dropped from the cap. But that is also true in both cases.

Well his value is as high as its ever been. If there was a time for a trade its right now.

I guess it depends on what the offer is. If its a 5th or lower I'd keep him around as our 3rd QB. If its higher than that trade him (Unlikely to happen)

How about for a player ? A corner maybe or a linebacker. We are paper thin at those positions behind the starters.

No way I trade him for a 4th. I'm excited to see TT start, but he's still a big unknown, and we know Cassel is a below average talent with no upside. Even if I wanted to trade EJ, I would rather wait until after this season. There's a good chance he could play in some games this year and with the weapons we have the improvements he's made, I think he'd only increase his value.

Nope. Our 1st round draft pick showed obvious progress so we want to trade him for a 5th? Seriously people.

you must be talking about his ONLY incomplete pass that was tipped at the line. I don't know what game some of you guys are seeing sometimes

I was a very harsh critic of EJ's and I say NO!!!!!

He is getting better under a better coaching not named Moron, I mean Marrone. He may just keep on getting better. It's not like Tyrod has proven he's the next Russell Wilson yet. He hasn't even proven he's any better that Fitz yet.

No, I wouldn't trade/cut EJ or Cassel. I simply don't think the odds are good that a 6'1, 215 lb mobile QB is going to play all season without getting hurt at some point.

Sure, because Lynch for a 4th turned out so well...

At most you might be able to get a 3rd for him that jumps up to a 2nd dependent on performance.

I would ask to be traded if I was EJ.

I think EJ would want to stay on the bills until his contract runs out. if he has to come in and play a few games that look a lot like the steelers performance, he'll get another shot at being a starter and will get a sizable amount of money given his attitude, where he was drafted and the promise he's shown as he's gone from raw rookie to capable backup with some interesting highlight plays.

the bills are still a huge wildcard at the QB position. i like the tyrod selection because he's been fun to watch, but he's been fun to watch in preseason and camp. let's see how it looks with gameplanning and vs starters all the time. i think he'll be ok, but he doesn't avoid contact and that could be an issue in a long season. to me, we need EJ on this team and no future pick unless its jacksonville's first is worth considering (and we know they won't do that ebcause they have a qb they like and marrone hates ej).

While we are doing a beer talk, does Rob Johnson or Matt Schaub ring a bell?

The dream scenario for Whaley would be 1) Tyrod proves to be the real deal this year; 2) EJ plays a game or two due to injury, and/or starts a meaningless game at the end and lights out like the Steelers pre-season game; 3) teams like the Redskins come calling at the end of the season giving you 1st round+ for EJ (close enough to be their hometown boy).

Sure, as long as I could get Brady and Edelman in return. Hell I'd even take one of the Mannings. At this point that includes Archie.

Why wouldn't you trade him at this point?

Tyrod is the starter. EJ is no longer the future of the organization.

Or ya know, you can let him sit on the sidelines holding a clipboard and then when his rookie contract runs out watch him just go elsewhere for nothing in FA.

Market for him right now might be a fifth. Anything better would be a bargain for us.
But I don't think I'd trade him. He should have been drafted in and around where Glennon and Mettenberger were.
I don't think the Titans and Bucs are looking to trade those guys. I certainly would not have included EJ in that group before this preseason but I would now. Each of those guys has given indications that they may develop into starting calibre NFL quarterbacks. EJ has made the biggest throws of any Bills qb in preseason so far. At least on one occasion he did it with two guys in his face (what was his best throw - the crossing pattern to Gragg). EJ was to me a guy whose instincts for the game and the position were dead. That may in fact still be the case. But he has done some things in preseason that I would never have expected and he has looked better doing it than I have ever seen him look before.
EJs a big horse. If it ever comes together for him he should be pretty good.
