Who invented the point spread?

The devil or Las Vegas?

The chicken or the egg?

The devil -1

Make your picks against the spread.

The winner at the end of the season gets absolutely nothing but temptation to bet on the NFL.

-------------------------------

Pittsburgh at New England -7

Patriots - Steelers defense is a mess.

Indianapolis at Buffalo +2.5

Bills - Colts defensive line is questionable, so is their offensive line.

Green Bay at Chicago +6.5

Bears - Green Bay wins, but not by more than 6 points.

Kansas City at Houston -1

Chiefs - Texans are starting Brian Hoyer.

Carolina at Jacksonville +3

Jaguars - Upset win. Bortles is going to be a very good NFL quarterback, better than Cam Newton.

Cleveland at New York Jets -3

Browns - Jets are starting Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Seattle at St. Louis +4

Rams - Upset of the week, Vegas makes a fortune.

Miami at Washington +3.5

Redskins - Fish win, but not by 4 points.

New Orleans at Arizona -2.5

Saints - Cardinals should win this game, but won't.

Detroit at San Diego -3

Lions - San Diego should win this game, but won't.

Baltimore at Denver -4.5

Ravens - Broncos are not a better team than last year.

Cincinnati at Oakland +3.5

Raiders - Bengals get sucked down the black hole.

Tennessee at Tampa Bay -3

Buccaneers - Titans are starting a rookie quarterback in Marcus Mariota.

New York Giants at Dallas -6

Giants - Suck it, Jerry.

Philadelphia at Atlanta +3

Falcons - Suck it, Chip.

Minnesota at San Francisco +2.5

Vikings - 49ers are going to be awful this year.

That is pretty cool that we are only 2.5 point underdogs to a team that is a Superbowl contender.

.

What's the difference between the Devil and Las Vegas?

Take it from me. I've lived in Las Vegas, and bet on football games for years. I was getting pretty good at it, but stopped last year.

Born and raised in Buffalo, though, and I'm proud of that.

Listening to ESPN radio today on WGR, I heard one of the hosts say he thinks the Bills are a legitimate Super Bowl contender with Tyrod Taylor.

You were one of the few on this board to support Taylor right after he was signed.

Not when it's a home game. It'd be >7 @Indy.

You might never see another team/crowd more pissed off then the Patriots after the offseason they have had. I would consider taking them if the spread was twice as high.

Indianapolis at Buffalo +2.5

Down McKelvin and Dareus I'm not sure we can hang with them, but I hope so obviously.

Green Bay at Chicago +6.5

Rodgers owns Chicago, even without Jordy.

Kansas City at Houston -1

Hoyer sucks and Foster is hurt.

Carolina at Jacksonville +3

Carolina has no passing game - again - but Jax gets no respect until they earn some. Bortles is somehow becoming overrated.

Cleveland at New York Jets -3

I would never pick Cleveland on the road.

Seattle at St. Louis +4

Seattle doesn't play well on the road and St. Louis always gives them the most fight.

Miami at Washington +3.5

You did see what Detroit did to Washington's OL in the preseason, right?

New Orleans at Arizona -2.5

Hard game to call here.

Detroit at San Diego -3

I just can't credit the Lions when the guts get ripped out of their defense.

Baltimore at Denver -4.5

Manning and home in the regular season

Cincinnati at Oakland +3.5

Still not sold on Oakland, but they are getting close.

Tennessee at Tampa Bay -3

Tampa has a lot more help for their rookie QB.

New York Giants at Dallas -6

I want to say the Giants cover, but an old gambling adage is to not take road dogs unless you think they can win outright, and I don't.

Philadelphia at Atlanta +3

I don't see Kelly's crazy experiment coming together in week 1.

Minnesota at San Francisco +2.5

An old time gambling biz ploy. Opening day fanfare attracts interest. Put the spread low, get winners on both sides of the odds, to set the hook so they return and bet more $ in the coming weeks...

New casinos do it - rope 'em in. As an aside, I find is cynically hypocritical when State pols yammer on about the evils of payday loans and title loans when what they are really doing is deflection of scrutiny about the *extreme* usury they promote and inflict on the citizenry...their own state lotteries. They always couch their lottery take in terms of "money for the public good."

Yeah. :earpoke:

Colts defensive line is questionable, so is their offensive line.

So is the Colts running game. Many are convinced Luck can win the game all by himself. We'll see.

Actually I think the Pats game vs the Colts will be worse. After all the Colts are the ones that blew the whistle on the deflated balls. I think Tammy the cheating **** will absolutely light up the Colts that day.

Who would you guys pick in an eliminator pool ??

The Colts haven't beaten the Patriots since 2009 (the infamous 4th and 2 game) and have lost 7 in a row by a combined 126 points.

I don't think the Pats need anything special to beat up Indy.

Miami and Minnesota are fairly safe IMO

Oh I know they don't. But they still got it. They are gonna tear them a new one.

I like Tampa Bay over Tennessee.

Winston over Mariota, but mainly because of Tampa Bay's defense.

You must have some brass balls to put your survivor pick on a 2-14 team.

Week 1 is weird in the NFL. It's the most unpredictable week out of the entire season.

Never put big money down in Week 1.

I want to pick Tampa Bay now at home because of the Winston vs. Mariota matchup.

I like picking games based on how much they interest me.

Always save the Bills for Week 16!

It is because almost none of the home teams are clearly better than their opponent which is why the point spreads are so low (not because it's week 1 as someone else said). NE is one of the exceptions and per the espn eliminator site not many people are picking them so I think that's the play.

I hope Big Ben rapes Tom Brady.

Before the Brady suspension was eliminated I actually liked Pitt over the cheats.

Not so much anymore.

If I'm not mistaken, bets are refunded in the event of a push with the exception of the vig.
