It doesn't seem that long ago that Tampa Bay's Shaun King was starting at quarterback in the NFC Championship Game against the St. Louis Rams.

As a rookie, no less.

"I just approach each year as its own entity," King said at training camp at Disney's Wide World of Sports. "You have to look at each season as having to prove yourself all over again."

Since guiding the Bucs to back-to-back playoff appearances, King has had to prove himself in the shadow of Brad Johnson.

Though King went 15-9 as a starter in his first two seasons, the Bucs signed Johnson to a big-money deal in '01. King has barely seen the field since, save some mop-up duty here and a one-play (and one huge completion) at Carolina there. There also was a nightmare start on Monday night against Pittsburgh last year that wound up being the team's last loss of the season. King was benched in the second half of that loss.
