Cam Newton should be happy, since his Carolina Panthers are 3-0 after beating the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. But he was irked by a comment from referee Ed Hochuli.

After a non-call on what Newton thought was a late hit by the Saints, no penalty flag was thrown and Newton said Hochuli told him he "wasn't old enough to get that call," via Eric Boynton of the Spartanburg Herald-Journal.

“I’m looking at (Hochuli) like, What? Geez, I didn’t think you had to have seniority to get a personal foul or anything like that," Newton said, according to Steve Reed of the Associated Press.

Enjoy your fine Cam, hope you think it's worth it...plus the fact you'll now never get any borderline call your entire career.

If true Hochuli should be fired immediately.

If true Hochuli should be fired immediately.

I seem to recall an NBA ref turning to Larry Bird as he inbounded the ball after the Celtics gave up a basket and asked him, point-blank, "Why don't you just play the game and stop crying, you big baby?" I don't think that ref got ashcanned for that remark, so I don't think it's likely Hochuli will get fired for that.

I was at the game and was surprised a flag wasn't called. I saw Cam and Hocculi jawing after the play and Cam wasn't happy. If Ed said that I am sure he said that in jest and it was his opinion it wasn't a personal foul.
I agree refs hold grudges against players and Cam didn't do himself any favors.

It it were Brady it would have been an easy 15 yarder.

I agree with Ed.BS.......a personal foul is a personal foul. Plus Cam Newton is a super star QB in the league.

You millenials need to lighten up. Ed was probably joking around.

Cam Newton needs to STFU.

Ed Hochuli: "You're not Brady enough to get that call son."

That's not that same as a ref saying his flags are subjective based on age and who knows what else?

If we didn't have the 'just give it to them' I probably wouldn't be so annoyed by this.

Sadly that is a part of how the refs make calls, based on personal relationship with the players and seniority. Brady and Manning get calls all day.

Theres a video of the incident (supposedly). Doesn't look like Ed was joking to me.

Oh brother....here come the conspiracy mongers again. Hochuli was making a joke. He was saying, grab your sack Cam, that wasn't that bad.
