BUFFALO, N.Y., Sept. 24, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The Buffalo Sabres have officially launched the Sabres DeskSite, a new, interactive video app that proactively delivers premium, high-definition video content to fans – for free.

The Sabres DeskSite is a personalized HD video content library constructed to support fans' growing consumption of online video. Exclusively modeled for the "Big Screen" and essentially a DVR for the Internet, the Sabres DeskSite serves as a digital fan hub for HD video, web content, and social conversation around the team.

DeskSite enables instantaneous video playback, offering a seamless experience that improves on traditional video streaming. Videos are automatically downloaded and stored directly to users' devices, allowing fans the ability to view content offline, without an Internet connection. The platform also includes audiovisual alerts, reducing the delay between a video's initial release and fan access. Video programming consists of game highlights, postgame recaps, player and coach interviews, and more.
"The Sabres DeskSite offers fans everything they want, and equally important, nothing they don't," said Richard Gillam, CEO of DeskSite. "With this new platform, we've made some exciting leaps forward in the evolution of digital media, most notably in the twin pillars of content curation and content access. If you're a serious Sabres fan, this is a 'must have' experience."

Pfffft.

It's 2015 and I can't watch a preseason game on the tv here in Syracuse. Always could in previous years. I might as well become an Isles fan - at least all their games have been on here.

You can like the Isles ironically like all the other Brooklyn hipsters.

It's the NHL! It's not the Sabres! actually it's MSG!

Occasionally, the "league" will grant its cable partner an "exclusive window" and not schedule any other games involving U.S. teams at that time.
If a regional sports network (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regional_sports_network) owns the rights to two NHL teams that are competing in the same game, the NHL will allow the channel to use SAP (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_audio_program) to carry commentary from both teams throughout both teams' coverage areas on the same channel. This most commonly happens with MSG Network (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MSG_Network), which owns the broadcast rights to four NHL teams from fairly disparate areas: New Jersey's New Jersey Devils (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Jersey_Devils), Long Island's New York Islanders (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_Islanders), New York City's New York Rangers (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_Rangers), and Buffalo's Buffalo Sabres (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buffalo_Sabres) (although the Sabres control the entire production of their broadcast through the Sabres Hockey Network (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sabres_Hockey_Network), while MSG produces the other three broadcasts). For instance, though MSG will only produce one pregame and postgame show for a game between the Islanders and Sabres, they will carry the Sabres Hockey Network on the main audio feed in upstate New York and the Islanders' commentators on SAP; however, in New York City and Long Island, viewers hear the Islanders broadcasters on the main feed and the Sabres commentators on SAP.

This software is not currently available on iPads or Android tablets. The iOS and Android-compatible versions are coming soon. This software is not available on smartphones, as it is exclusively designed for “Big Screen” devices.

Don't worry, it's pretty lame at this point. Unless you're into interviews of which there are dozens. Hopefully it will get better.

One nice thing is there are highlights. I hate having to go to NHL.com.

To me, that's the whole thing.

Same here. You have to wade through a bunch of horsecrap to find them.
