Mario's contract needs to be restructured with a huge cut in pay

As I understood it, 2016 was a year we could fix Mario's contract & it needs to happen. The guy is eating a huge amount of cap and doing nothing to earn it, if anything we might be able to fill his space with a more talented player for 1/4 the cost. There was a time were I'd consider this heresy but he looks underwhelming, barely trying & coasting. It just has to end and we will be better for it.

He's being paid near #1 money for talent, I'd say he's not even in the top 7 on our team.

the level of worries for people is unbelievable. we are 2-1 and the team largely looks better than most expected. it would have been nice to hang with the patriots longer. but they are in good shape to be competitive and win vs the giants. 3-1 is pretty good.

He's not hurt...he hasn't cost the team any noticably big plays. yes, it was a big contract. he's a big time player. he came at a time when no one would come here. and he started as a big piece of being a very good defense.

Does anyone remember the wanndestat years? those were miserable.

as for his large cap hit, let's see how this season goes...if we end up .500 or below, we have a ton to think about. if we get into the playoffs and miss a play or two from advancing, he might be very convinced to restructure.

Convinced or traded he's not getting the money he's getting paid this year if his production doesn't improve drastically.

it's great to make such a declaration in week 3.

everyone wants to resign harvin and tyrod and cut mccoy, watkins and mario.
can we at least get to the bye week before we think about next year? They are a winning team. they are second in the division and seem to be diversified enough to be able to win with big games from preston brown and karlos williams.

we aren't relying on any one person yet.

I get annoyed with people who love to point out his stats but I totally agree, his contract is gonna really create some problems when trying to re-sign other talent. His cap number is gonna be ridic, so why not restructure it in a way where he still gets his money and we are put in a better situation going forward?

I remember reading this article early on this year and it made sense to me.

Mario Williams has an enormous contract. Can the Buffalo Bills do anything with it to free up cap space this year? Is it even sensible to do so?

So many morons here that look at a stat line and don't watch the game. There was actually a play where the announcer said that Mario will get no credit for making the play.

                    Yep.

The guy was first-team All-Pro last year. Three games into this year, he's horrible because the stat sheet says so. Moronic.

While he's a likely candidate to take a restructure, if you think a guy coming off two Pro Bowls and an All-Pro selection is going to willingly take a pay cut then you need to up your medication.

Pay cut not going to happen. Re-structure for team benefit maybe.

In Rex's defense its hard for guys to get stats like they were getting last year.

Last year the defense was predicated on the front four getting to the QB. This year they have tasks and assignments. Sometimes Mario is just trying to distract his man so Roby or Bradham can blitz a specific gap and attack the QB untouched. That leads to more turnovers.

Mario is not going to take less money just because his role is different yet his effectiveness is still there.

I completely agree. His stats won't show in this scheme but he is still overpaid in this scheme. Under the 4-3 last year, he earned it only rushing the 4 DL .

I never said I didn't like Mario or that he's horrible, I'm saying that we are paying this guy a fortune for doing limited things that can be replaced. The guy is making $16 Million a season, forget the stats / unnoticeable play all together because this is huge money that needs to go towards other people for retention.

Anyone focusing on the wins we had being Mario related is nucking futs, he had minimal to do with both of our blow out wins and completely disappeared during the NE debacle (admittedly with the rest of defense but at a very high price).
