Gionta might be out.

Samson takes his spot.

Top 2 lines are great. The 3rd line has a lot of potential.

The D is scary, especially without Bogosian. Goaltending looks weak as well.

Lot of talent there but two rookies on the 2nd line?

Yeah but one is supposed to be an all world rookie.

Well, we might has well kept zad at that rate!

Don't worry, we are getting another future star at the draft. It's coming but we aren't there yet

I got a 3 hour drive ahead but just set the game to record. Must resist temptation to peek at score before tuning in.

Sure was. I saw it when it happened. Pysyk made a move at the line and Girgs played lazy.

No defense.Defense wasnt the problem tonight. The Sabres were sleepwalking through two periods. I can accept two goals against with the starter out.

Eventually there will be a rule change that doesn't immediately **** over the Bills or Sabres. It was the right call but last year that goal counts and we go to OT. all the bad calls against us over the years with no recourse. We finally get a bad call in our favor and it gets reversed....

The first two periods sucked ass. The third was pretty much what I expect from this team. Pressure and scoring from the top 6 but defensive lapses that hold them back.

Samson created a decent chance from behind the net in the second. He shook back and forth a few times and threw it in the slot once he shook the defender. No one could get it, but it was nifty. I like that kid alot

The 2nd goal happened because Risto completely fell asleep defensively and never turned around to find Turris. I think defense absolutely was part of the problem.

Surely. I was not implying defense was flawless. But two goals on 21 shots with your backup in net says there were bigger problems afoot. Through two periods, the team played with zero energy.

Agreed.

I missed the first period (work meeting) and I'm far from the kind of fan who understands the more nuanced parts of the game, but even my novice eyes could see that Risto completely failed on the 2nd goal. Just poor ice awareness to lose Turris completely despite having backside (do they call it backside in hockey?) responsibility.

I noticed that and I thought "holy ****, two years after the rule change and someone on the Sabres finally figured out how to use the extra space behind the goal. "

Backside is the term... On my team we call it "far post". In fairness to Risto and if u watch the replay.. he knew exactly what his responsibility was, but dropped his stick. As he picked it up... goal.

The real problem with that play is the turnover and the fact that Colaiacovo was absolutely pitiful in pressuring the puck once the turnover happened.

Risto took poor care of the puck deep in his end and that other stuff back there dos absolutely nothing to help bail his partner out.

Like I said... defense is a problem.

Something from nothing on that play. It was nice
