MUCH MORE THAN the weather has changed in the 6 months and 4 days since fans attending Veterans Stadium's last football game watched a sure-thing Super Bowl berth slip through their team's numbed fingers.

Friday afternoon, the Eagles open training camp at Lehigh, when rookies and select veterans report; everyone else is supposed to show up Monday. But this year, Birds fans making the annual pilgrimage to the mountains won't be leaning forward during drills to hear Hugh Douglas' often hilarious commentary; Douglas signed as a free agent with Jacksonville, back in March. Brian Mitchell is a Giant, Shawn Barber a Chief. Levon Kirkland apparently is making sure the restaurants down in Charlotte don't have to lay off any food-preparation staff.

Such is the way of the NFL. There are always changes and there are always questions, especially for teams that come up just a little short of expectations, as the Eagles did last season for the first time in the Andy Reid era. MORE... (http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/sports/football/6363319.htm)
