I'm guessing they won't...the NFL is bigger than New York State.

"Gambling is Bad!! Unless you want to line our pockets on DraftKings."

Shouldn't be a surprise - New York State is one of the worst scoring states on the Freedom Index rankings.

Actually no. NFL made around 10 billion last year, NY State made 149 billion, and belongs to a federal government that allows and anti-trust for the NFL and is big on state's rights.

The solution for both sides would be doling a piece of the pie to the state(s) or it's headed down the road of any other online gambling. I was kind of startled it was even legal to be honest, but used the 4 million I made on it this year to buy bitcoins just in case it went bad.

I wasn't aware that Kraft and Jones were owners.

Those 2 truly are the scum of the earth. Kraft more so than Jones.

I never use the interwebs, it's full of servants of iniquity slavishly chasing mammon. I keep my trebuchets to myself.

I'm not familiar with either DraftKings or FanDuel. Maybe if they would put an ad or two on TV I could gather some information.

It's funny how the day before (or day after, I forget) that Jones and Kraft inked deals with DraftKings the NFL was in Federal court arguing against sports books being legal in Atlantic City casinos saying it would be bad for the integrity of the league.

Yep. I remember the big fight in NY against the numbers rackets back in the early '60s.

They beat the bookies by becoming bookies themselves. Claiming to "protect the public", we went from a handful of folks losing a few bucks here and there, to huge numbers getting fleeced by impossible odds.

It is interesting to follow the flow of money...

FanDraft pays ESPN for advertisements.
Out of that money, ESPN pays the league so it can broadcast the games.
Out of that money league pays the players.

Seems like there could be a conflict of interest very easily...

IMO the only thing that keeps the NFL interesting to the general masses is fantasy football. The product on the field is so boring, and officiating so bad, that losing the allure and interest of fantasy football with kill TV ratings and the money incoming to the game and players. If the NFL has any sense they'll fight this thing. When that one player last week was going to sue fanduel or whoever because they used his likeness, he's not very bright. Face it, who watches other teams games if you don't have a bet on it? You have casual fans following all the action to see if they won in their fantasy league.
With all this premise about the horrors of "gambling" which the state selectively condones, I feel it is in my best interest to have say on what I put my money on, rather than entering a random lotto drawing or pulling a slot machine arm which requires no skill and I have no control over. I like the fact that I have control over what I'm betting on. To me that's a skill game.
I see no harm in fantasy football.

Typical hypocritical New York State thug commies.

If placing $5 in a potluck of fantasy football is considered, "gambling," then what the hell is Bingo after grandma forks over $20 for some pieces of paper with numbers on them?

Fantasy Football is a lot like Bingo. You choose players with numbers, and you have to pick them quick. If you get the right numbers, Bingo!

Is Bingo on Friday nights at the local church gambling too, or is it okay because it's for Jesus?

Is NYS going to go after every small business that sells football squares next? That's gambling, is it not?

Slippery slopes don't end well.

That's pretty much most of life so it's good to get used to it sooner rather than later. I'm still aggravated you can't smoke in bars where you drink alcohol (not like that hurts anyone any), but it didn't change anything much. Lot of stuff like that.

Bingo ? Well that's for old people, you don't mess with old people or you'll be sorry. Adapting to circumstance means you shift to Bingo if you need to, but you'll be sorry, those old people mean business.

Hypocritical or not, there are differences. Bingo is ostensibly a fund-raiser for a charity. And as far as football squares, etc. go, the payout is typically equal to the take in. Technically it is illegal, but comparing it to DraftDuel is like comparing jaywalking to grand larceny.

The analog here would be the state lottery. It is big bucks and the payout is nowhere near even. But they pass it off as being for education when everyone knows it's a bait and switch. The lottery is a conservative's wet dream: a way to pass off expenditures from the rich to the poor and enriching the patronage. Elect me and it would be gone the next day by executive order. And I would do to that disgusting casino downtown what Jimmy Griffin did to Green Lightning.

Nice Green Lightning reference, but it will go over the head of 80%+ of the people here. Not everybody is old.

Actually, the State allowing, even encouraging, casinos in exchange for a cut of the proceeds is probably a closer comparison.

That's what this is really about. The government thugs aren't getting their cut of the proceeds.

NY doesn't get to take a cut of the profits or tax it, so it's bad.

Simple as that really.

I don't disagree with you at all, but I would be interested in hearing where you are going to come up with literally billions of dollars of revenue to fund public education after you enact your executive order.
