This New Rule is Making Football way more Interesting.

Just Today
Put Bills lead in Question
Saints blocked extra point & returned it for 2pts to go up 16-13
Both KC vs OAK have missed last 3 extra points

~ It's becoming similar to Free Throws in NBA

I actually hate it. There is enough going on in this convoluted sport, now I have to worry about extra points? PATs deciding the impact of games? No thanks.

More Missed Extra Points Today -9- than All of Last Season -8-

Ditto.

Just another way for the Bills to lose a close game.

Oh no I don't disagree with you that it is making things more interesting.

I just don't want the game to be interesting because of PATs.

I enjoy the new rule and I think it will become more entertaining in future years as teams adapt and try less PAT' s and more 2 point conversion attempts.

So it's working?

The point was to make it not automatic.

And for the Bills we just need to find a Kicker worth a ****.

I like it. It's exasperating when YOUR kicker misses one, but overall it's added to the game IMO.

On the outside chance the Bills squeak into the playoffs, I think we need to be working on a couple viable 2-point plays rather than relying on a Carpenterrancy.

I love it. The PAT now actually has meaning and significance. If you lose a game because you miss a PAT then shame on you.

The problem is that it was becoming automatic. 8 missed extra points all of last season? If it's that easy, might as well make the touchdown worth 7 and get rid of the kick.

I think it gives southern teams and dome teams an advantage. I'm interested to see if teams will consider going for two more often.

I'd like it more if Carpenter would stop choking. He has missed five already this season. FIVE!

Conversion attempt snapped from the 15 yard line for 1 point .... Field Goal attempt snapped at the same distance or less results in 3 points ...makes perfect sense

I don't really think it does, both kickers are operating in the same conditions.

Whaley and Rex are busy scouting extra point specialists.

It's the same difference regardless where the PAT is kicked from.

I suppose you are including preseason. While I agree kicking needs to be upgraded, the miss yesterday is all on Schmidt.

Wouldn't it give non-dome teams an advantage? Who would have an advantage in the Ralph when a dome team visits? Ostensibly, the Bills. Who would have an advantage when the Bills visit a dome? Anyone? No.

No it's five in the regular season. And Carpenter also missed a FG yesterday. Guy is on the way to repeating exactly what he did in Miami. Great for a couple seasons, then full blown collapse.

No it's five in the regular season.

He's 28/32 on PATs in the regular season. Misses v. NE, @NYJ, @KC, v. HOU. Three in the past four games though is pretty bad though, as I said, yesterday is on Schmidt.

I think he hit his stride with Buffalo the last two seasons. At 30 years old, he might be on the down swing. I think he can be easily replaced next year.

Downside... the ass clenching mad bathroom dash between TD and Kickoff means you might miss something meaningful... The extra point was a great bathroom wiz bang.

Try it the rugby way. TD 5 points, PAT 2 points, BUT the kick is taken at any point on the field of play in line with the point that the ball crossed the line for the TD, and parallel to the touch-lines

:D

How long does it take you? I guess I really don't want to know that.

But there are more than enough commercials between the TD and Extra point. Then there seems to be 5 more minutes between the ep and kickoff.

The games have way to many long breaks. One of the many thing making it harder to watch.

There are zero commercials between TD and EP... It's between kick and TD.. Plus with toes curling, you need to sit through replays now and referees upholding calls and picking up flags. with a six pack weighing ya down.

Don't they make visiting teams in a dome kick inside too? I think it has an opposite effect- If I'm New Orleans or Atlanta, that's 5-6 times a year I'm kicking outside. Less prepared/practiced for it.

I wonder if the same complaints were made back in 1970-whatever when they moved the goalposts back to the end of the endzone. They are called goal posts because they used to be on the goal line.

I think kickers were generally receptive. PAT's before the posts were moved back were kind of like taking a free throw from under the basket. ;-)

Da fux. That was left field. And irrelevant.

PATs were made by guys who played the entire game at another position (or two) too. Paul Hornung (RB), Lou Groza (OL), and George Blanda (QB) to name a few off my head

It sounds more like a drinking issue than a commercial issue. Haha.

Are you sure there are no commercials between the ep and td?

It sure seems like it takes forever. Maybe it's the replays you mentioned.

I don't know about that but I still don't like it. Maybe it's because I go to games and it sucks all the fun out of touchdowns. You have this great moment with such a release, and then you have to wait for the PAT. The exciting play is the TD, not the kick after. I want to enjoy that, not the stupid kick.
