    Buffalo 2016 Free Agents

Who should stay, who can go?

    QB-Johnson
    RB-Gillislee, Wood
    TE-Gray
    WR-Hogan, Harvin, Salas
    G-Incognito
    OT-Glenn, Mills
    P-Schmidt

    Dline-Bryant, Charles, Carrington
    LBer-Bradham, Tarpley, Powell
    CB-Butler, Brooks
    S-Rambo

IMO---Nobody is in the 'gotta have, gotta pay' range. Incognito is the closest, but he shouldn't be offered more than Top Ten guard money.
I'd like to see them re-sign Glenn (decent RT contract, not LT money), Gillislee, Schmidt, Butler and Rambo.
I think they have to re-sign Hogan, two of Bryant/Charles/Carrington and one of Bradham, Tarpley, Powell just for depth purposes.
Johnson, C.Wood, Gray, Salas, Mills and Brooks can go along with the one dline and two 'backers.
Harvin can piss up a rope.

Glenn and Incognito for sure. I'd rather not go into the draft/free agency now needing a left tackle to add to the list of needs.

Glenn and his agent are not going to settle for "decent" RT money when he has been a LT for 4 years

Yeah, I've gotta believe you're right. He certainly doesn't deserve big LT money, but he'll probably expect it.

I hope we don't overpay for Glenn but I know if we let him walk our LT will turn into a revolving door of late round rookies and career backups.

Watching him get abused by the likes of Chandler Jones every year is getting old. I could do without him, but what we would do in his absence scares me.

It will take anywhere from $54 million to $60 million for 6 years to sign Glenn.. At $10 million a year he is slightly paid more than Jason Peters which he doesn't deserve to be but that is FA for you that is the cost of retaining your own and hoping he plays a bit better than in the past

                Re: Buffalo 2016 Free Agents

Glenn and Incognito stand out as guys that need to stay. With Mario and probably at least a few others out for aging/salary cap, the Bills should have the cap room to keep those two if they so choose.

Gilleslee I'm sure everyone has liked what they have seen so far. With Shady and Karlos getting banged up off and on this year, the Bills should have a third (and probably fourth) tailback that you wouldn't panic if they had to make a spot start or get 15+ touches if both of those guys ahead of them are out. Schmidt had one awful game against Washington but other than that I can't complain about him. Hogan is meh, Gray is an athletic TE but haven't seen enough of him to make a decision more than having him in for training camp, and Mills can come back and compete for a backup tackle spot since he's been about as good as you can ask for a mid season addition asked to start.

On D the only name that stands out is Bradham, and I don't think he fits into the new D's system. The DL FA's aren't starters, although they all contributed in the past I'm not sure if Charles and Bryant fit in and Carrington might be done with all of his season ending injuries. Tarpley and Powell can come back to camp for another look but I wouldn't cry if they were gone. Rambo is good in spots and we could do much worse for safety depth, but I wouldn't count on him as a long term starter. Brooks is bad and should have been cut this training camp, and Butler hasn't played enough to make a decision.

Hopefully we could get him for something closer to Bushrod/Dunlap money ($7mil per)(top15).

They better not overpay for Glenn...

Early in his career he was playing much better and I thought that would turn out to be a stud, but now, the guy's barely an average LT.

                        Re: Buffalo 2016 Free Agents

I'm only going to estimate base salaries for the purposes of this because trying to predict singing bonuses and other escalators will be impossible.

RB Mike Gillislee - 3 Years, 1.5 Million (500K per year)
This is the amount most of the 2014 rookie class is making per year.

OT Cordy Glenn - 4 Years, 25 Million (6.25 per year)
This contract would rank him 7th in the NFL in base salary and would be fair to our cap imo. He would be slotted between Jared Veldheer and D'Brickashaw Ferguson both of whom I think our decent comps.

OG Richie Ingcognito - 2 Years, $4 Million (2.0 per year)
This would rank him in the Top 14 in OG money and I don't want a long term deal for him because of his advanced age.

DT Stefan Charles - 2 Years, $1.5 Million ($750K per year)
A nice bump from just over $550K to $750K. He's a big body for the middle that we need as a part of this defense. He's by no means a guy you commit to long-term.

DE Alex Carrington - 2 Years, $2.0 Million ($1.0 per year)
See note above. He's got good size, speed, and power to play as a rotational DE.

LB Nigel Bradham - 3 Years, $7.5 Milion ($2.5 per year)
This is a touch call, because he's not a great fit for this D but he's so good in coverage. I truly believe he needs to play inside next to Preston Brown and let him take on a lot of the TE/Slot WR/HB/FB coverage duties. He can run, he can tackle, and he should have a place on this team.

                        S Baccari Rambo - 3 Years, $1.5 Million ($750K per year)
See similar notes for Charles and Carrington.

                        P Colton Schmidt - 5 Years, $7.5 Million ($1.5 per year)
This puts him into the Top 10-13 of punters in the league on the same level as Jon Ryan, Marquette King, and Brett Kern which I think is fair.

Total Base Salary Added: $50.5 Million ($15.25 per year)

By cutting Mario Williams, Kyle Williams, McKelvin, Carpenter, Urbik, and Dixon you can gain an additional $25.8 million on next years cap, which is way more than I just added above.

Has Jered Veldheer at just over $35 million for 5 years and D Brickasahaw Ferguson at $60 million for 6 years... A base salary of $6.25 million for Glenn puts him 18th for LTs $25 million for 4 years is a massive low ball offer... And Incognito is not going to settle for $2 million a year...

I believe OTC is including annual salary escalators.

I don't see how cutting Mario and Kyle solves anything. The Bills would have one edge rusher in Hughes, a good 3/4 end in Dareus and replacement level talent at the other five spots. Sure there is the draft and free agency, but a free agent 3/4 end or 3/4 linebacker is going to cost ~$5 million if the Bills are able to get a Jabaal Sheard type of deal done, a lot more if they want someone like Wilkerson.
