The Bills need a developmental backup quarterback for 2016.
I can't see the Bills spending $2.8 million next year to keep EJ Manuel.
If you look at all of the backup quarterback records this season, there's no point in spending $3-$5 million a season on a backup QB.
Cardale Jones is projected to be drafted in the 2nd or 3rd round.
At 6'5 and 250 lbs, Jones is physically comparable to Cam Newton.
11 starts, 11 wins at quarterback. He's far from perfect and admits he needs more seasoning, but I think he's smart to enter the 2016 Draft with the expectations of being a backup with time to learn.
Chad Kelly could be thinking the same way. Enter the 2016 Draft, ride the bench for a year (or more) and learning the game could be an old but new again trend in the NFL.
Instead of being drafted in the 1st round and having the pressure of immediate results and huge expectations on their shoulders, future NFL quarterbacks might now be following the long term lead of players like Brock Osweiler, Tyrod Taylor, and Aaron Rodgers.
