Is Tom old enough to be considered for a consulting role?

          So would I.

Fun fact though - Rex has made it to the playoffs more times in the last 7 years than Coughlin has and he only has 1 more regular season loss in that span.

Tom apparently still wants to coach, just thought it was time for he and the Giants to part ways.

If that is true, I don't see how he doesn't take one of the current vacancies.

There are a few GM gigs as well. A new GM in Miami might look at a Coughlin Or perhaps Cleveland.

                  This probably makes more sense.

I don't think he was being shown the door. My guess is that after several close, late-in-the-game losses due to poor play calls, he decided that it was time to leave the coaching ranks.

Rumors are that he would still consider coaching elsewhere.

Remember that in the last few years that he struggled, not only was Eli erratic much of the time, but Coughlin had a coule of guys that we know quite well forced on him as coordinators: Kevin Gilbride and Perry Fewell. Both who are know for, well, not being very good. Both were fired in Buffalo and then NY.

Gilbride was not fired in NY. He retired on his own.

Coughlin 19-29 the last 3 years. That division was for the taking and they folded bad.

Kevin Gilbride retires as NY Giants offensive coordinator before he can be fired

LOL. Yes. Technically he did retire. He was about to get canned.

Amid speculation that he could be fired, Gilbride - dubbed 'Killdrive' by Giants fans - says he's finally ready to step away from the game after nearly 39 years in football.
