Idea of the article is that the Bills won't be players in FA, which bothers me little at this point :

What stood out to me though was :

We had a lot more pieces on the defensive side, so (Rex) was like, ‘Let’s just get an impact player.’ Offensive side, we needed to be a little more specific."

I sort of had to keep rereading that paragraph, trying to comprehend Whaley said it.

Roman was the one who made do, and Ryan was the one who couldn't because he was scheme specific. This organization is delusional.

Ironically, the Bills are expected to take the opposite approach this offseason, letting their offensive personnel gel for another season while shaking things up a bit on the defensive side of the ball. If Whaley is to be believed, however, they'll do most of that work in the 2016 NFL Draft later this spring.


No mystery there. Plus rework some current deals to free up $ for depth.

They shot their wad on offense and free agency last off season.

Going to be interesting to see how they try to 'fix' the defense with the draft and low-level free agents.

If you haven't realized by now, what Ryan says doesn't necessarily mesh with what really happens.

Woody Johnson bought it for 6 years before Ryan was finally jettisoned.
