Well, there's almost $14mil hit to the cap.

bad move if they do ,

Well, they've said talks are going well, and his agent has a pattern of getting contracts done before the tag expires (http://bills.buffalonews.com/2016/02/27/250902/). So they could use the tag to keep him from the open market, then use the time to sign him and rescind the tag with his new contract being the one that affects his cap number, not the tag figure.

Tagging him only means that's what they'll pay him if they have to for a year, if he doesn't sign. Too early to assume he'll play out that tag.

your exactly right on , I just hope they don't over pay the guy, in 4 years he has had 2 good years none warranting a pro bowl selection so can't see him making top 5 money for his position. this team needs too many upgrades to keep over paying people on a team that hasn't made the playoffs in 16 years. If they give what money they save by restructuring and cutting others to Glenn can't see how the team got better only worse.

They can't let him go, he may not be the best LT in football, but he's good, and honestly he's the only T on this team that can play. Cyrus is a bust, Mills is awful, and Henderson wasn't a league avg starter before his health became a major concern. Like others said, tag and negotiate.

At worst, Glenn is a very good LT. And very good LTs are hard to find in this league. Finding Offensive lineman has not been Whaley's strong suit. Other then Incognito (who one could argue was a Rex guy). The Bills need to do what they can to keep Incognito and Glenn. I would hate to think of what this OL would be without them.

Gotta keep the left side intact. Miller develops year 2. They need to drat a right tackle. There are several good possibilities in this draft. And they need a back-up for Wood that can fill in at guard, if needed. I am hoping this is Whaley's plan.

I think OT is in the mix at 19. However, I think the Bills may shy away from addressing OT in the 1st few rounds to be honest... I think D will rule day one.

Not really.....
Plan is he can be franchised but doesn't need to sign right away and from what I know he wont.
HAs told his agent to get this done he wants to stay in BLO........
Last case scenario is Franchise and work the long term deal and spread out the salary to leave $$$ for this year....

You are right....
OT is on the list, but they really like Jordan Mills as well but that doesn't mean they wont pull the trigger on Decker if #1 he is there and #2 the guy they really want isn't there as well.....
Very high is LB, DE/OLB specialist...

Which is sad, as the Bills are one year removed from having the #4 overall defense in the NFL.

He was much better when he was outside.....

Huh? What? He's a 3rd string tackle on his very best day.

Though I guess they liked Ed Wang at one point too.

Ha ha......
Not really but Yes Mills is high on there list...
They like what he did last year and I agree. Not saying they wont draft a guy to compete with him.
Face it though OL isn't the biggest need for this team at all....

Granted, but until a new deal is done the tag number is what needs to be calculated into the cap.

Tag number only gets calculated if Glenn signs it....
Worst case is the tag him and still work out the deal.........Then TAG number still doesnt go against the cap until SIGNED
Hopefully we don't have to worry or that's where all the $$ will go on that tag number.

They were one of the worst passing blocking offensive lines in the league last year, with the right side as no better than horrible in pass protection.

John Miller is very much a question mark.

Thinking he is a starting quality RG is premature.

Miller is an "in your face" kind of guard. Relies on power. Has to work on his technique.

It is sad, but this is a good year to have to do it with the talent available. If he can't find a few Ryan guys to Ryanize his defense and prove his Ryanility, we're Ryaned up the Ryan.

Had the chance to if I could beat him in the 40. But I get winded every 10 yards and have to stop for a smoke.

If they franchise Glenn and can't reach a long term deal with him, they'll have to work out a trade with him.

There's no way to justify an average LT making 13.7m, I believe that's the tag number for 2016 on Oline.

Does this really need to be brought up in every single thread? We're talking about franchising the LT and it has to be brought up that Rex messed up the D? Is there a single person on here that read that and was like, holy ****, seriously?

That's his point.

You had the 4th ranked defense in the league.
Rex comes in, screws it up.
Blames the players.
Now he'll be wanting new players.
OL gets put on the back shelf because he wants new defensive players.

It IS sad when you have to rebuild the 4th ranked defense, and it is worse than sad when other areas suffer as a consequence.

It is sad when you can't upgrade the RT position if he's going to want a new NT, DE 2 LBs and at least one safety.

Whaley needs to get this done.

You missed my point. The point that the defense went from 4th in the league to a total **** D has been brought up ad nauseam. All of the points you brought up have been brought up countless times. We all know these things already and posting it in every thread (not necessarily you, I just mean in general) is not necessary. That was my point, not whether his post was applicable in the context of the post he was replying to.

Anyway, I'm glad they tagged Glenn. It sounds like Incognito might not come back so they desperately need to keep Glenn long term. I've read he wants to come back, so that's a good start.

Eh..anytime someone brings up "we need to do this to the defense", someone is going to bring up Rex.

Its like a couple having financial problems. Whenever the problems come up, the wife is always going to say "If you hadn't invested $300,000 in that Strawberry Flavored Beef Jerky kiosk we wouldn't have these problems"

You can be proactive and nag in the same conversation.

Incognito would be one less problem to worry about, but I don't imagine he'd get more than a 2 year deal. Age aside, that would be right around the time of his next meltdown.

Anyone who looks at his history understands that it began well before Miami. He can only behave for so long.
