Sabres end Penguins’ reign atop RSN ratings (http://www.sportsbusinessdaily.com/Journal/Issues/2016/04/18/Media/NHL-RSNs.aspx)

The Buffalo Sabres have ended the Pittsburgh Penguins’ run atop the NHL’s local TV ratings chart.

The Sabres, despite a sub-.500 record, averaged a league-best 6.55 rating for their games on MSG in the 2015-16 season. That’s up 60 percent from Buffalo’s 2014-15 season average, the largest increase in the league.

This is the first time the Sabres have had the league’s highest local TV rating since the 2008-09 season. It’s a gain due largely to the fan base’s excitement over last year’s No. 2 overall draft pick, Jack Eichel, and other aggressive offseason moves.

It’s also the first time in the past seven years the Penguins were not atop the local ratings leaderboard.

Nice little accolade. A little bit of leverage for negotiations also?

Bring a WNY Sports network (channel) and follow the Sabres / Bills full time, the ratings are there to be had so get the advertising money and lets go.

A regional network in buffalo could thrive again, if they got everyone on board. Show amerks games, show sabres, show bandits and bison games. Show the local schools. Show the games on delay if their start times coincide with say a sabres game. It would work. It would be awesome.

I don't think the market is large enough to sustain a network of it's own for too long, especially when the marquee teams have been perennial playoff no-shows.

The sabres are routinely at the top of the NHL in viewership. So, I think it would do fine.
