Official details of draft day trade offers to Bills #19

Denver moved from 30 to 26, giving Seattle an additional 3rd round pick. I had to believe their offer to the Bills would at least be their 2nd round pick (for moving 11 spots up). So Dallas did offer their 2nd and 3rd, and I have to agree with the Bills that it is not nearly enough.

It just looked to me the Pegulas had an impact. I don't doubt Rex would want Lawson regardless the offer but if anyone offered their 2017 1st round pick on top of having the Bills sliding down 20 or so spots, I think Terry probably would take it.

We got Lawson,Ragland and Washington for the D. Some interesting players on Saturday. If we find another RT candidate before the opener, I'm fine with everything.

I could care less about making Jerry Jones happy. I hate Dallas.

So Dallas wanted to swap thier 2nd for our 1st and the only compensation they were offering was thier 3rd round pic? It's such a low ball over that it doesn't sound right.

That 2nd player the Bills could take had the Giants pick Ragland was Reed. http://blogs.buffalobills.com/2016/0...t-round-grade/. How close the Bills had Lawson, Ragland, and Reed, that would be 3 starters right off the bat.

I'll have a lot more to say about this in 3 years.

I love draft stories that tell how it happened and this was a great narrative. Thanks for posting. It had a ton of great info with details, which is usually what they are missing.

If Denver or Dallas wanted to move up to #19 they should have made a better/fairer offer.

I would have liked to see a worse offer myself with Whaley saying "Sure, they bent us over and made us holler, but I found it thriling in some dark, forbidden way where I was forced to use inadequate picks after having been taken advantage of. After, Rex and I, we talked about it, and well we laughed, then cried, and it was an enlightening experience in terms of personal satisfaction with the picks we were allowed to use at the feet of our betters. I'd like to think we'll get abused next year as well, and I think Rex is with me on this one, having a great background in being humiliated."

It also shows how much inexact science player evaluation is, especially for NFL where you are picking one of 11 guys on the field so the fit/schema is in play. The Bills D Line coach has Washington #1 on his list of tackles. Obviously most of others, including Whaley, think otherwise.

People always use that figure...3 years. I get why.

But sometimes you don't know even then. I guess Jerry Hughes was considered a first-round bust after three years. That's why the Bills were able to trade Kelvin Sheppard for him after his three years in Indy.

A whole bunch of unforeseen crap happens, and I figure that's what makes the game entertaining to follow.
