Bucs' Rice walks the walk to dominance

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (July 24, 2003) -- You're tempted to roll your eyes and shake your head. You begin to wonder if the guy is serious or seriously lost on the mother of all ego trips.

How great of a football player is Simeon Rice? Let him count the ways -- that is, of course, if you don't have any pressing engagements. You're going to be there a while.

But then it occurs to you that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive end isn't boasting at all, because he can back up everything he says with his performance on the field. He is one of the most dominant forces in the game, regardless of position. He is a tremendous athlete with incredible speed and power. He is, as he puts it, "just too much to hold and too hot to handle."

Rice led the NFC last season with 15 1/2 sacks. He made some of his biggest plays in the biggest games -- playoff victories over San Francisco and Philadelphia, as well as the 48-21 win over Oakland in Super Bowl XXXVII. Rice, in fact, probably should have been the Super Bowl MVP.
